Sarah Palin Declares Her Independence
redstate.com ^ | Gary Jackson

Once the hunted, Sarah Palin becomes the hunter.

Sarah stunned the world Friday by doing something that isn’t done. She is willfully giving up one of the most powerful positions a politician can aspire to. She is stepping down as Governor of one of the most important states in America.

The media elites were stunned. It was almost hilarious watching their reactions of disbelief. Their commentary was downright entertaining, and further proof that they don’t have a clue. Even those on Fox!

And the symbolism of doing this on the 4th of July holiday, the time we celebrate our nation’s birth, and our independence, was completely lost on the whole lot!

Almost universally, no one in the elite media got it. This is a huge comment on why our nation is in deep, deep trouble. One reporter on Fox, who has covered Sarah since she became Governor, went so far to say that her speech was “rambling”, and “incoherent.” Again, this just proves that even the media we most trust for news doesn’t a clue about real Americans.

Sarah Palin sounded just like us! We, the people, understood every single word she said. This is the reason she is wildly popular in the first place. She IS one of us!

Of course, just as universally silly as the commenters are, the pundits are even more clueless. And, evidently, devoid of any and all abilities of comprehension, be it for the written word, or spoken. We’ll get to the speech itself in due time, but suffice it to say, that for normal Americans, those who this speech was aimed at, this was a call to action.

Now the talking heads all agree that Sarah is done.

No chance of ever being anything again.

The only article that nails the why of Sarah Palin and her resignation.

Excellent article. Gary seems to know Palin extremely well. I believe he is spot on, and Palin is asking those who have similar views to join her crusade. I’m in.

Enough whining about the GOP, we now have someone on the national stage (if that is the way she goes) to voice our concerns, present a challenge, and rectify the wrongs being done.

From the perspective of raw resources and strategy geopolitical location it probably one of the most important states in the union...but most just don't get it (The "You can see Russia from Alaska" comment was really a relevant point....the Bering straits is a back door between Eurasia and N America...any conflict between the US and Russia or China and the Bering Straits is going to be a nuclear Jutland and who wins it probably wins the war

Exactly~ I saw quite a discussion at Instapundit about this and some suggestions she for a new party -- Tea Party, Glenn pointed out that we've already been there, done that, this is an opportunity to take back the GOP to the fine party we know it can be...

BTW people forget she seems to have a very good relationship with Michael Steele, as much as people have been unhappy with him, this could actually be a huge plus for her as they are both sort of GOP outsiders (compared to the Romney's, McCain's and even Huckabee's)... it actually cracked me up that Chris Wallace was asking Huckabee for his take today -- WHAT did Chris expect from Huck who is probably dancing a happy jig thinking this gave him his opening -- little does he know we don't like him either.

Perhaps, but one day soon, one side is going to get to say to the other, “Told ya so.” so I’m making sure that I’m on record. Trust me, I’m well aware that Palin fanboys would be merciless, so I’m prepared to do the same when primaries come and primaries go, and no Palin on the ticket.

Money and votes matter. Alaska doesn’t have that much of either. Money will buy you resources. Geopolitical strategic locations aren’t in the middle of nowhere. They are where economic and population centers are. Russia and China don’t need to transit the Bering to get to the US.

If you think money will buy you resources you’re going to be screwed. Resource nationalism has become an enourmous problem since the escalation of commodity prices in the early part of this decade. We are now competing with China and Russia for energy, base, strategic and precious metals and losing badly. Ask Royal Dutch Shell how their billions were stolen from them by Putin at Sakhalin. Most of the world’s remaining large oil and gas and metals deposits are located in areas western companies simply do not want to go and are no longer welcome. Or, they may be welcomed in but once they’ve sunk billions into engineering and development the projects are nationalized.

Deposits in geopolitcally stable locales are extremely tough to come by. Alaska is in that respect possibly the best location on the planet for large deposits in a politcally stable environment.

To hear those pundits on Fox today, with the exception of Bill Crystal. A buddy of mine made a comment that seems like fox is no better than nbc.

I completely understand why she resigned; she couldn't get anything constructive accomplished as gov when dems keep hounding her with rediculous charges. Now Parnell (he's a good guy) will get some experience and win nx election hands down; Palin done right.

I've watched all the good Palin has done up here over the last 15 years; fantastic leader who does the right thing even if it sets the repub leadership off. If Sarah was a dem, I'd still support her; that's how for real & fair she really is.

Yep. The only person I saw on Fox who seemed to have any sense was Lt Governor Parnell. How all those talking heads, Dems and Pubs alike can find her statement “confusing” is beyond me. I believe it was Parnell who said he didn't understand why they all were saying we have to wait and see what she was planning on doing when she made it very clear in her statement. He seems like a good successor to Palin.

Parnell has been close to Palin for many years. Parnell has seen it all transpire as most Alaskans have. Fox went straight to Anch Daily Worker for comment (S.F. family owned left wing paper) ADN is Alaaska’s new york times. Fox either knew ADN would carp on Palin or they are ignorant. Lost any faith in Fox News. I just want the truth out and our media sure ain’t telling the truth.
