Here is video about a Seattle man who claims he never actually enlisted in the U.S. Military, but was arrested for going AWOL when he tried to return to the U.S. after an overseas trip. He claims he almost enlisted 10 years ago, but decided at the last minute not to. Apparently, there was a paperwork messup, with military records showing he went through basic training and then went AWOL.
The man was released after a week in custody, and now carries papers showing he never was in the military. . . . (Watch Video)

He thinks they don’t want anyone to know that he backed out and he doesn’t blame them. What a little leftie. Like the Army cares what he does.
Never ascribe to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
Lefty or not, arresting and holding him for a week is pretty screwed up. Especially over a paperwork mistake.
Hmmmm.........I suspect a recuiter padding his account....those guys are under a lot of pressure.
It's unclear from the story, but it's possible he did in fact go to basic training and got sent home by the military with an Entry Level Separation. Anyone can be separated from the Army in their first 180 days of service for 'failure to adapt' or 'for the good of the service.' If you get ELS'd from basic training, its as if you never signed up at all. I dont recall if you got a general discharge or if they just dumped the paperwork.
It would certainly be possible if the kid went AWOL, came back, and was ELSd right soon thereafter (right after he finished up his Article 15 punishment for going AWOL).
Government behemoth’s move slow. He supposedly was in for quite a while, it took a while to prove his story.
I’m not sure I believe his story, but I’ll accept it for now, unless something more comes out. ya never know.
Even if he did, isn’t there a statute of limitations?
That was my first thought.
The claim was that he had “served” for two years. So during those two years who was drawing his pay?
Under the UCMJ/Federal law I don't think there's one for AWOL or desertion. But I'm not sure.
My theory is that he went into delayed enlistment through the MEPS and backed out before going active. They probably didn’t pull his paperwork in time.
I've been following this story, and its a classic case of military records being screwed up. Accurate military records has been Been a problem with the military since before the Roman Legions. The sad part here, is the kid never served a day in uniform, yet was arrested, and had his head shaved, and finally after being cleared, still has to justify his innocence with a arm load of documents.
This same thing recently happend to my 28 y/o sister. She never signed anything, nor did she go to bootcamp. She came home one day from teaching and there were officers at her door with a warrant to arrest her. They didn’t at the time but told her she needed to do to Fort Dix to resolve everything. She flew there and was placed in handcuffs, dragged and humiliated in front of everyone. Our mother had just passed away from a long battle with cancer and for my sister to have to go through this was horrible. Major Pitcher would scream obscentities at her and no one would listen to her or help her. Nice way to treat an honest/caring law abiding citizen you bullies.
I hope they get their asses sued!!
