If you understand the importance of discrediting the MSM and you're willing to help me show that CNN lied by making a phone call, please read on. Note that, while this issue involves birthcertificate, you don't have to believe any "birther theories", all you have to do is want to show that CNN lied.
On the 17th of last month, Kitty Pilgrim of CNN said (transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0907/17/ldt.01.html):
The Republican governor of Hawaii, Linda Lingle, on record, she says Obama was indeed born in her state...
I've searched and searched and searched and I haven't been able to find any sort of statement like that: CNN just made it up. In fact, as can be seen at the first link above, Lingle's office sends out a form letter saying that it would be illegal for her to verify whether he was born there.
Please note once again that you don't have to believe any "birther theories" to want to help me show that CNN just made something up.
I've sent two emails and left a voice mail for Lingle's communications director (or whatever his title is), and he hasn't responded. What I need is for others to help out and try to get in touch with him, and ask him to respond to both of these questions:
1. Did Lingle ever say anything like that, and if so on what exact date and in what exact publication did it appear? (Was it in a press release, news article, video, TV show, or what?)
2. Since CNN's claim in effect accuses Lingle of violating Hawaiian law (the one mentioned in her form letter), will the state of Hawaii be asking CNN to issue a correction?
The goal is the second: get HI to pressure CNN to issue a correction. Once that happens, all the sources that relied on CNN's report - such as the SPLC - can be made to look bad. That will also have the side effect of taking some pressure off Lou Dobbs.
You can get the contact information for Lingle's communication director at the end of this (Pang). Or, try to get a statement from an official with her constituent services.
If you can do that over the phone - and the other party agrees to be recorded and their agreement is in the audio - get audio of the phone. Or, see if email or FAX will work.
Once you get a statement, post it as a comment here or in a separate thread. If you can't record them, please provide something as close to a full transcript of the call as possible.
If you can't do this but you know someone - perhaps in HI - who can do this, please send it to them.
Correct, Lingle never has said Obama was born in the state.
Fukino said she reviewed the “vital records” and proclaimed Obama a NBC. Hawaii is not going to say that they where duped because someone wrote a statement to the fact that Obama was born in Hawaii. The most likely case in IMO. They would out themselves, by bring criticism upon them, for the flimsy laws that can be easily conned.
Is there a video of this on youtube or metacafe ?
That makes at least two of us. I'm suspect there are others. It would not surprise me one bit to find out that the the last modification to the Hawaii Obama records are at most a few years old.
I already looked in Youtube and I’ve done several searches in Google. If she’d said anything I’m pretty sure I would have found it.
However, none of this is going to make a bit of difference unless the government of Hawaii themselves goes on record. And, I need someone else to do that since I’ve already got other things to do.
Look, ever since CNN admitted that they slanted the news coming out of Iraq in order to stay in Saddam’s good graces, they have not been a respectable news organization, and their audience reflects that.
Considering the political history of HI, being a republican there doesn’t mean anything close to being a conservative.
