Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) proclaimed that those attending health care town hall meetings are "carrying swastikas." You can watch her say it below:

(Brief summary for those lacking video: Dallas AARP meeting went wrong for organizers when participants refused to sit down, shut up, and applaud Democratic talking points. Organizers then left; meeting continued.)
Complete with their quoting Madison and their insisting that AARP worked for them and not the other way around and their refusal to believe that AARP iasnt sucking up to the administration on health care rationing. The sheer nerve of them, acting like they were real, live citizens of both the United States of America and the state of Texas. I mean: theyre all over fifty!
Terrifying, arent they?
The young people trying to run the Dallas AARP meeting (while almost-successfully managing to hide their baffled contempt at the way that the audience refused to take direction) certainly thought so. Up to the point where they ran away.

PS: Exit question: when one of John Sweeneys union thugs messes up and smacks around some guy in a walker without checking for cameras - how do you think that will play in Peoria? Shoot, how do you think that will play in Chicago or Detroit?
“Listening session”
fingers in their ears saying “yadayadayada I can’t hear you”
These people better be careful. You start pissing off the elderly and you’re asking for trouble. They’ve got vast experience, they’ve got nothing to do and they vote. They’d have no problem sitting around a table at the local community center, reading a copy of legislation.
Geezers Unite!
The dumbasses keep trying.
aarp is anti 2nd amendment lobbying force (lotsa bucks)
Get out of aarp now!
I hope this health care “reform” ends up costing the AARP its credibility with a lot of its members, just like it’s costing the MSM the little credibility they still have.
I first saw this at a site other than RedState, and there were 50 or so comments. All comments were negative, and half were determined to not join, cancel their membership, or not renew. Using their support for healthcare reform as a fund raiser is really funny.....
hh
AARP starts sending you stuff when you’re in your 40’s. So, we are not Old Geezers. The only reason we got a membership was for discounts on things. I called AARP a few days ago. I told the staffer that I had a message for the head of AARP that is supporting “DeathCare.” My message was for that person to shove my membership up their rectum. There was silence on the other end at that point. Then I told the woman that I wanted a refund. My $24 is being sent to me now. Anyone with a membership, feel free to do the same.
How about the elderly just burn their tax returns in protest?
Uh oh.... 40s.... waaaaaaaaaaa :0)
OK, sorry, I can’t keep up with their lies and hyperbole. Were there REAL swastikas, or just someone with “SS” signs (as in Social Security or some other meaning), or are the libbies resentful about being likened to the fascists, or all of the above....
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) proclaimed that those attending health care town hall meetings are "carrying swastikas." You can watch her say it below:
Interviewer: Do you think there's legitimate grassroot opposition going on here?Pelosi: "I think they're Astroturf... You be the judge. "They're carrying swastikas and symbols like that to a town meeting on healthcare."
If one were to take her at her word, surely the Nutroots (Netroots) would have been all over this story and can corroborate her assertion, right?
Wrong...
I ventured into the fever swamp to find confirmation of the Speaker's allegations. I went to the largest community sites searching for "Swastika." Surely that would turn up confirmation of the Speaker's claim.
Here's what I found...
[Note: Links are to search results that will change over time. Anything dated after 8/5/09 is an after the fact post or comment that would, in effect, be Astroturfing for Pelosi's statement.]
Daily Kos (Stories and Diaries) - 2 results, 1 related. The related report (about defending liberal turf on health care) contains no report of health care protest attendees wearing swastikas. Verdict: No corroboration
Think Progress - 1 result dated back to 2008, unrelated. Verdict: No corroboration
Firedoglake - 3 results, none related. Verdict: No corroboration
Google Blog Search - None related, one post calling B.S., and there was this from a recent Austin, Minnesota immigration reform debate, where an actual member of the Socialist Party is said to have worn a t-shirt with a swastika. Verdict: No corroboration
But finally, the comment sewer at Daily Kos did reap a reward...
Daily Kos Comment Search - Mostly non-related, but there is one comment which appears to be the source of Pelosi's contention. Here we find the one and only reference to someone (a kid) supposedly wearing a swastika to an event in Austin two weeks ago. Verdict: Possible source
With that to go on I found this report about the Austin event. No mention of swastikas in the report, but there was one comment mentioning a sign with swastikas. Verdict: Another possible source
The Daily Kos comment and the Burnt Orange Report comment are ostensibly about the same event but one person supposedly saw a kid with a swastika and another saw a sign. The Burnt Orange Report post indicates that there were only 40 or so protestors. The Burnt Orange Report comment indicates that there was media covering the event, yet none of the media noticed the swastikas? Seems pretty unlikely. More likely the two commenters were embellishing for a crowd (the other commenters) who were all too happy to believe whatever they said.
Aparently comment sections liberal blogs is where the Speaker of the House, number three in line to the Presidency, gets her information.
Verdict: Bullshit
Adrian points out the video here. I made a screen cap...
"I've seen/heard some ridiculous charges (with no proof to back them up) concerning the town hall protests, but this clearly takes the cake."
"Funny to hear her say this, considering at dozens of anti-bush rallies there were pictures of bush and the swastika on the same page."
"Astroturf" means someone else is working behind the scenes. "Swastikas" means that the someone else is a Nazi group. It does not matter to Pelosi whether any swastikas were there, she has made her false little point. ( The Narrative so beloved by the Left and the Press- but then, I repeat mysef'... )
"They're carrying swastikas and symbols like that to a town meeting on healthcare."
Zero has called out his Brown Shirts and Union Thugs to convince the American people he cares about their HealthCare or is it just their Heath in general? Will they be going door too door next? Maybe we will have to wear a sign on our clothes that we are one of the Americans that are confused and not following orders?
Thanks for that summary, Heavy Equipment Operator!
I’m sure we will have to wear signs soon! After all, they’re already saying we’re too well-heeled -— excuse me for wearing lipstick and combing my hair!!! And maybe wearing a jean skirt and not spilling out all over the place like the fat (excuse me, weight-challenged) Commie-supporters do!!
I heard BO in the background, bragging about how he’s “the president”... dunno what he was talking about, what context, but I’m so disgusted by his non-stop bragging narcissism. All the while sneering at us.
We Texans are not going to take this crap without a fight.
Being a geezer myself, I am all for us to unite. Lived too many years to listen to bull shit from nit wits.
