The Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton, Virginia, is a window on the past. The museum traces the history of various immigrants who settled the Virginia frontier in colonial and early American times with buildings depicting the architecture and lifestyle of the folk of England, Northern Ireland, West Africa, and Germany who came to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Most of the houses and other buildings are the real thing. The English farmhouse was built in England in the 17th century; the Museum had it disassembled and reconstructed it in Virginia. The 1820s and 1850s American farm houses are likewise the real thing; these log structures were purchased in Virginia and moved to the Museum grounds. This remarkable effort gives the Frontier Culture Museum a solid foundation of authenticity.

Bttt.
The Museum of Appalachia near Knoxville, TN, is cool, too.
Thanks for posting!
Glad to; and there’s more to come. I like old stuff like this (as if you couldn’t tell).
Yes, indeed - - it is also a living-history museum, with some good collections of items like folk art.

I just got a chance to look at the frontier museum link. You’re the author of the article? What a neat place! We love to visit historic sites, and we participate in living-history events when we can.
I wouldn’t trade my antibiotics, anesthesia, and air conditioning for anything, though!
