GOP Thinks the Unthinkable: Victory in 2010
Washington Examiner ^ | 08/14/2009 | Byron York

It's a possibility many Republicans speak of only in whispers and Democrats are just now beginning to face. After passionate and contentious fights over health care, the environment, and taxes, could Democrats lose big -- really big -- in next year's elections?

No, we’re running behind. We need to work harder.

We have to find folks to vote for rather than Democrats to vote against. And we need and end to backstabbing “reach across the aisle” concensus RINOs or the GOP can forget it.

What about open primaries? Letting the enemy choose our candidates ensures RINOs.

Isn't this the truth. You can't beat somebody with nobody, and there are too many RINO nobodies in the Republican Party.

The Republican Party is usually clueless and useless. They still have plenty of time to blow this. They CAN win a significant number of seats. They could probably take 30 or 40 of the seats held by demholes in red districts. My district in NY is a prime example. Massa rode Bambi's coattails and only won by 1.6% in a district Bush won handily twice. There has to be dozens of districts like this. But if the R party puts of some moderate wuss, Massa wins. If they put up someone that sounds like Palin or Liz Cheney, Massa is crushed.

Speaking of Liz Cheney, every R, including Steele, should study her and watch how she disassembles these MSM fools that try to embarrass her and box her in.

Rep. Tom Price, the Georgia congressman who heads the House Republican Study Committee, points to what he calls the fatal combination of Democratic overreaching and arrogance.

The question is: do the Republicans understand that this also applied to them in 2001-2006?

In order to make gains, we need conservative candidates....

Would be nice to find some GOP candidates who would run on limited government principles, who lack the stench of political cronyism and don’t look like smug/hypocritical a-holes.

Some of us want both parties to lose.
If the GOP runs RINO’s let them lose.

“GOP Thinks the Unthinkable: Victory in 2010”

Unless they have learned their lesson, how would it be better? I am tired of trading one big spending party for another. I don’t vote for one group just to deny the other power. I expect that if the GOP tricks me into voting for them again, they will GOVERN as they CAMPAIGN. If you say that you are going to cut spending, then REALLY cut spending, don’t just cut the rate of growth. If you SAY that you are pro-life, for crying out loud DO SOMETHING ABOUT ABORTION! If you SAY that you are pro-military, STOP WASTING OUR RECOURCES AND PEOPLE IN PLACES WE DON’T BELONG!

A party that wants to stay in power has to have a majority and that doesn’t happen if you keep the club exclusive. The only way that making the tent bigger is to keep the government limited.

If the Republicans want my vote, they will not run RINO candidates. I am not going to demoncrat lite again.

Where is the leadership? Who stands for us? I haven’t seen squat with the exception of Mrs. Palin.

Agreed, but what IS encouraging is that in many cases, the "Republicans" running are CONSERVATIVES. Toomey is kicking Sphincter's butt in PA (that could be a pickup); Portman, if he can replace Voino in OH, is a major conservative shift because Voino was completely left his last 10 years; and Crist may be forced by Martinez' early resignation to appoint Marc Rubio to the Senate seat (huge swing).

Dingy Harry is in trouble; Boxer is running very low. Not to mention the governor's races where conservatives are leading.

Don’t know what you’re talking about. Two years ago, all anyone did was quote polls-—which were right. Well, those same polls are showing the GOP across the board very, very strong, and not just “Republicans” but conservatives such as Toomey, Portman, Rubio are doing very well. GOP leads significantly in the “generic ballot:” GOP leads in every single “trust” category over the Dems except one, and now leads on “health care” for the first time ever.

Ok, ok, enough whining about RINOs. How about supporting the conservatives such as Rubio, Toomey, Portman, Kasich who DO have a chance to win this time around? There has been a significant shift to the right within the GOP. Yes, there are still idiots out there, but in OH, if we replace Voino with Portman, it's like "gaining" a Dem seat; and in PA, if we can elect Toomey it IS technically gaining a seat because Sphincter is now a Democrat.

No, we probably won't be able to get McCain out in AZ, but he is getting a primary challenger. The key there is kicking out Mitchell and Gillibrand, who should never have won those seats.

I have just one thing to say to all the people on here who are complaining about RINOS. If you want to take back the party, get out there and work, and, RUN YOURSELF! We need good conservatives to run, but don't need people who don't do anything but complain. I am serious. I think there are some people who list on here who are good, sound, conservatives, with level heads on their shoulders. Some of you are younger and not “old-timers” who can remember Goldwater, like myself. Come on, get out and do it! Do more than post! I am sure some of you are and I truly appreciate you. But now is the time for us all to stand up for our country and take it back. It may be too late if we don't head this off by 2012.
