Eli Roth, the horror-movie director who created a film-within-a-film in the new picture Inglourious Basterds, was asked by Time Out New York about how the experience affected him:
QUESTION: You directed a fake Nazi propaganda film that airs in the middle of Inglourious Basterds. Was that the most twisted thing youve ever made?
ANSWER: I thought I had made some horrific movies before, but there I was, filming that propaganda movie, Nations Pride. The whole thing is this guy in a bell tower shooting American soldiers and its all supposed to be about the glory of Hitler and the power of the swastika.
Im in the scene where they watch the movie. So there I am, a Jewish director, sitting with 300 Nazi extras watching this movie and going crazy. Theyre in character and acting, but hearing them yell Heil Hitler! and Kill the Jews! in German, my stomach dropped. I looked at Quentin [director Quentin Tarantino] and said, What have I done? Did I just start the Fourth Reich? This movie is going to reignite the Nazi party and theyre going to make me their Sarah Palin!
Crap like this is the reason I don’t go to movies. Hollywierd can keep their garbage!
In another movie, Julia and Julie, Hollyweird takes some outrageous slaps at that Republican Party and Sen. Joe McCarthy.
They seem soooo determined mock anything Republican or conservative.
This will be an easy film not to see.
Barney Frank is going to shout outrage. Not!
Damn! I wanted to see this movie but I’m not keen on putting my hard-earned money into the pockets of buttheads like Roth. Guess I’ll wait for it to hit the tube. . .
I hear that in the movie, the renegade team of soldiers basically behaves like Nazis as they torture and erradicate the German Nazi soldiers.
And don't be so sure of your effectiveness as a filmmaker. If you REALLY had skills, you would've used them to help get an empty suit like Barack Obama elected. There were propagandists at work.
Yet the current president has practically become a living dictionary example of the economic definition of Fascism, and nary a whimper from the jester class.
I was going to skip this remake of a B-movie anyway.
Not a bad idea.
Saw the film already. Not one of Tarantion's best.
Have most of his films in my DVD collection. This one will not be making the cut.
