Perhaps good, but the minute I hear rap, I keep looking for the preceeding “c”.

Oxymoron of the current times?

Rap “artist”.

The last time the swine flu was a threat, I had government health care. (USN). I was forced to take the vaccination.

I won’t be vaccinated this time, thank you very much.

Anyone who doesn’t want to get vaccinated shouldn’t have to. However, I would encourage anyone to look well past the internet anti-vaccine hysteria. Facts melt most of those sites like water melts a witch.

“Don’t inject me, don’t infect me, stick your needle in my arm and chemically wreck me ...”

What a great song

You’ll only be “chemically wrecked” by an injected vaccine if you’re allergic to egg whites.

LOL, wow man, you must work for the pharmies, take your shot, I’m not, and I wont get the flu even if I’m sitting a room full of folks with it.

No, I don't work for a pharmaceutical company. I am, however, extensively trained in biotech / molecular bio / microbiology, and I have a graduate degree. After reading incorrect anti-vaccine hysteria online for the past ten years, I have decided to make it my mission to tear apart the blatant distortions every time I see them posted.

take your shot

Will do.

I wont get the flu even if I’m sitting a room full of folks with it.

An exceptionally misguided strategy, but good luck with it.

egg whites? is that another name for “squalene”, typical bio person, I wouldn’t take your advice for nothing and I hope others see through you as well...

From the Health Ranger ...

I wrote Don’t Inject Me to get the message out about the potential dangers of the coming swine flu vaccination campaign that’s about to be forced upon expectant mothers and schoolchildren all across the world. From a purely medical perspective, the swine flu vaccine is a complete joke: It hasn’t been tested on anyone for long-term safety, it hasn’t been shown to reduce H1N1 swine flu fatalities by any amount at all, and it is altogether likely to be obsolete within a few weeks anyway due to the rapid mutation of the H1N1 influenza strain.

So based on that, which CANNOT BE REFUTED you’d still take the shot, that is why you have no credibility, NONE.

It sounds like you didn't take your grammar teacher's advice, either.

So based on that, which CANNOT BE REFUTED you’d still take the shot, that is why you have no credibility, NONE.

This method of debate reminds me of playing ping pong with someone who hits the ball straight at the ceiling and then claims victory because you didn't return the volley.

Don't get the flu shot if you don't want to. That's your right. However, it's not your right to spread misinformation as fact and put others at risk.

So you’re saying not to take the vaccine is more risky than taking the vaccine? On what do you base your evidence on? Can you show me the studies that show this vaccine will work on H1N1, reduce fatalities, or even make the flu less severe? What are the long term risks, especially given the rush job being done. I assume you know about the 1976 fiasco where they halted the damage as the vaccine was far, far more risky than not getting vaccinated, I mean, it’s not like folks are totall making this stuff up.

So you’re saying not to take the vaccine is more risky than taking the vaccine?

In the US, there are 36,000 deaths and around 200,000 hospitalizations from the regular flu each year. The risk of GBS is one case per million vaccines. So unless you're allergic to egg whites, I'd recommend getting the shot over not getting the shot. And if you are allergic, the nasal spray is a safe alternative for you.

Can you show me the studies that show this vaccine will work on H1N1, reduce fatalities, or even make the flu less severe?

I have yet to see evidence that this particular vaccine will behave differently from a typical flu vaccine. A typical vaccine provides a 75 percent effectiveness rate in preventing hospitalization. That number drops to 40-50% at age 65, and 15-30% past age 70.

I assume you know about the 1976 fiasco

On October 1, 1976, the immunization program began. That same day, three senior citizens died soon after receiving their swine flu shots and there was a media outcry linking the deaths to the immunizations, despite the lack of positive proof. According to science writer Patrick Di Justo, however, by the time the truth was known—that the deaths were not proven to be related to the vaccine—it was too late. "The government had long feared mass panic about swine flu—now they feared mass panic about the swine flu vaccinations." This became a strong setback to the program.[29]

There were reports of Guillain-Barré syndrome, a paralyzing neuromuscular disorder, affecting some people who had received swine flu immunizations. This syndrome is a rare side-effect of modern influenza vaccines, with an incidence of about one case per million vaccinations.[30]

I'm not advocating forcing anyone to get the vaccine. However, I am advocating thoroughly debunking those who spread misinformation about the vaccine. The facts about flu vaccine simply don't support the arguments of the anti-vaccine zealots.

The typical flu shot is one dose because the strains in the seasonal vaccine have been around for a while and many people have been exposed to a similar bug already. Even with the seasonal vaccine, kids under age 9 sometimes have to get two doses, as their immune systems have not yet been exposed to similar strains. The strains in the H1N1 vaccine are somewhat less common, so fewer people have already been exposed to them. hence, the two doses instead of one.
