Chgo Trib's Eric Zorn Doesn't Mind That Teddy Got Away With Murder
Publius Forum ^ | 08/31/09 | Warner Todd Huston

If this isn't the perfect example that liberals don't care who has to die in order to make sure that left wing policies win the day, then nothing does. We can see this prime example in Eric Zorn's horrid August 28 editorial where he thanks ... well, whatever deity leftists believe in, if any... that the country didn't quickly find out about the homicide of Mary Jo Kopechne that was committed by Teddy Kennedy in July of 1969.

Zorn is happy that the news of Teddy’s crime was quashed for hours as the poor woman slowly drowned while Teddy boy sat around a plush hotel drinking with pals. He’s happy because if the country had seen 24/7 coverage of the incident in 1969 it may have ruined Teddy's career as a politician afterward. And if that had happened, you see, why the "lion of the Senate" wouldn't have been able to push his anti-American, left-wing agenda for the ensuing four decades.

So, as far as Zorn is concerned, quashing the news of the homicide that Kennedy committed was a good thing. In Zorn's opinion, allowing the woman to slowly drown wasn't so bad after all. In Zorn's opinion, the attempted cover-up of Mary Jo Kopechne's death was unimportant. Yeah, the woman's death was a small price to pay for 40 years of pushing a left-wing agenda.

It is funny that liberals are like that. Two sets of standards. Like the ones who are against death penalty, when you pose the question to them...
What if it were YOUR daughter who was raped and killed?

All of a sudden THEY could pull the switch.

I bet Zorn is the same way, what if it were YOUR daughter who was killed in Ted’s car that night?

They are such hypocrites.

Find an old Olds 98. Put him in it, and make him drive the plank!

Liberals are alright with anything that pushes their communist doctrine. Remember they had no problem with Bill Clinton “The Rapist in Chief” either!!!

I’ve read Eric Zorn for many years: he is a good barometer for leading-edge Lefty Thought, and on that basis he is excellent value.

Else I’ve missed his point entirely, what Zorn is saying is that America would be worse-off in the Grand Scheme of Things if Mary Jo Kopechne’s death had been allowed to halt Ted Kennedy’s subsequent life of service in the Senate.

I don’t know of a single Lefty who doesn’t believe that. So all Zorn has done is articulate the beliefs of the ruling majority in America. Should he be fired for that? Probably not.

The current liberal seeking monopoly of government, behavior and even thought in America today is largely the culmination of the sixties radical movement.

Sadly, the Left has become the "Monster" railed against in the 1970 Steppenwolf classic song by that name.

"America where are you now?

Don't you care about your sons and daughters?

Don't you know we need you now

We can't fight alone against the monster.

True Americans must now stand up and fight the monster that the Left has become, which endangers freedom and liberty far more than the one the song was written about ever did.

Isn't life in this world ironic?

Free speech for thee but not for Eric, ay. How do you propose to make *that* work in America?

It’s best not to stoop to Liberal levels: they’re usually the ones who want people fired for their beliefs. It’s much better to have the Eric Zorns of this world employed and able to articulate their Leftist beliefs, so that we are able to effectively combat them.

Uh... after your kindly warning, I’ve been looking and looking in the Constitution and I just can’t find where it says that freedom of speech depends on being published in the Chicago Tribune. You being a Constitutional expert and all, maybe you can point me to the correct section? I appreciate your learned help.

Obviously you do not need to be published in the Chicago Tribune to enjoy Freedom of Speech.

But do you truly believe that someone ought to lose their jobs based upon their published opinion? In America?

If so, heaven help us FReepers.
