Perhaps on Tuesday, instead of listening to the president deliver yet another speech, we could teach our children the history of our National Anthem, penned by Frances Scott Key on September 8, 1814, after the battle of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812. Have them look up its history online and let them read all the stanzas that we do not sing.
That would accomplish far more than listening to the president preach about “personal responsibility” when his cabinet members and czars show that is a trait sadly lacking in his circles.
What if the parents want to share the speech with the kids and have home time and a teachable moment?
