Brezinski Calls for Obama to Shoot Down Israeli Jets; "A Liberty in Reverse"

In a little noticed interview with the Daily Beast (presumably little noticed because serious people don't read the Daily Beast), Zbigniew Brzezinski suggests that Barack Obama do more than just refuse to support an Israeli strike on Iran's nuclear sites -- the American president must give the order to shoot down Israeli aircraft as they cross Iraqi airspace:

DB: How aggressive can Obama be in insisting to the Israelis that a military strike might be in America’s worst interest?

Brzezinski: We are not exactly impotent little babies. They have to fly over our airspace in Iraq. Are we just going to sit there and watch?

DB: What if they fly over anyway?

Brzezinski: Well, we have to be serious about denying them that right. That means a denial where you aren’t just saying it. If they fly over, you go up and confront them. They have the choice of turning back or not. No one wishes for this but it could be a Liberty in reverse.

Contrary to Brezinski's half-hearted disclaimer that no one wishes for such an outcome, there are plenty on the left who would delight in a pitched battle between the United States and Israel. Democrats in Congress routinely support resolutions affirming Israel's right to take whatever steps it deems necessary to assure its own national defense. And Obama has at least paid lip service to the concept. But hostility to Israel among the rank and file is very real on the left -- and among "realists."

So conjure the image -- the Obama administration sending U.S. aircraft up to protect Iran's airspace and it's nuclear installations from an attack by a democracy that is one of America's closest allies. Unfortunately, this may not be so hard to imagine in Israel, where the number of people who believe Obama is pro-Israel is at just 4 percent -- and falling. And given Obama's (literally) submissive posture to the Saudis, his indulgence of the Iranians, and his simultaneously hard-line approach to Israel, it seems even some of Obama's supporters can savor the possibility of a "reverse Liberty."

Its been discussed by USAF pilots, I’ve been there while its been brought up. We’re not stupid, we do carry live air to air missiles even though its a Close Air Support mission, and we’re between the two countries in question.

You don’t have to obey unlawful orders, and you have a personal obligation to use your judgment before using lethal force. I couldn’t and wouldn’t do it, and neither would 90% plus of the guys who I’ve talked about it with in a little 15x30’ trailer in Iraq. That trailer was called the alert shack, and that’s where the defenders would launch from. It’s going to go badly for all involved if Obama gives such an order. It will crack the military officer corps to its soul, and turn officer against officer.

Now that I think about it, maybe he will give that order.

I have frequently reminded us that Zbigniew Brzezinski and Robert Gates coauthored the 2004 Council on Foreign Relations paper Iran: Time for a New Approach calling for negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Obama pursues Ahmadinejad, despite repeated rebuffs; despite the latter's murder of protestors and pursuit of a nuclear bomb.

Brzezinski merely expresses the anti-Jew agenda of Obama.

Michelle brags she "grew up in Jesse Jackson's house" and it was Jesse Jackson who boasted "Zionists will no longer be in the driver's seat".

No, Jesse, Obama and Brzezinski want them under the bus.

I'll give you even money. I've been predicting this since the election was final. We have switched sides in all the world's conflicts. Some are harder to turn than others. Watch Afghanistan grind down and withdrawals begin soon, with Taliban biting our heels on the way out. Obama will need those troops - to guard against you and me.

Communists and aspiring dictators fear and hate militaries and will do what they can to destabilize them until they can get firm control. The old Soviet government kept a huge separate contingent of compliance troops attached to their regular units, commissars and political officers etc, because of residual fear of the military that never went away.

I spoke to a friend, a 90 year old American Jew who said, in the middle of a general conversation, “You know I saw a beautiful picture the other day, it was just a lovely picture of Obama.”

Needless to say I didn’t say much to that as its tough to change the mind of a 90 year old who has voted Dem all her life. the irony is she has always been so against anti-semitism and pointed it out all the time and is extremely proud of her Jewish heritage.
This is the mindset of American Jews. And if Israel gets attacked because of Obozo’s ineptitude or deliberateness, they will say it was the republican’s fault somehow.
