I dont believe it. No dealer is stupid enough to destroy those cars.

I drive a 1995 Ford Escort 5-speed that gets 34-39 mpg.

I don’t qualify for Cash for Clunkers.

The whole program was just a secondary bail out for the auto industry.

You like the GC Jeep? I have one but older than yours. Wasn’t part of this deal - that all the cars were to be trashed?

I thought it might be a joke too, but I checked it out and various “reputable” papers such as the estimable NY Times confirmed the details.

I do like it very much. I actually had picked it up for my son because he was in a bad crash a 15 year old pulled out in front of him with no headlights on in an old truck and he hit it at 70mph. He had a Jeep Cherokee and he and his fiance walked away from it he only had a fracture in his foot and a hemotobin on his leg some seat belt injuries but he walked away. He got the kids who hit him out of the truck and good thing the gas tank blew up.

So I got it because he said they didn’t have any low mileage ones in his area and it was a good price. He then decided to buy a new one and I said I didn’t care I would drive it this winter and turns out I love it.

Reminds me of an accident my son was involved in. It was around 7:30 pm on a rainy night in March - some guy named Mohammed, drove the wrong way down a one way street w/no lights on. My son had just got the car two days earlier, a Suburu in perfect condition. Driver couldn’t produce his insurance card.

Your good deed had a great payoff!

Got this in email this morning:

The POSITIVE results of “Cash for Clunkers”:

It has taken 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.

I have a family member who has had a GM/Chevy dealership for 51 years. He told me that t during the cash for clunkers run an old man traded in a beautiful old Chevy truck that “he could have drove another 10 years” but had to be destroyed. They drain the oil and pour liquid glass in the engine. He also told me he finally got paid for all his Cash for Clunkers deals. Also he received a letter from GM that he is one of the dealerships that has been cut off. He told me he has about 24 brand new GMs left on the lot and that's it. He is PO’d! I told him that GM did him a favor because a lot of folks do not want Government Motors cars. I suggested he try a Toyota dealership.
