...There was this old Buick, a big late 60’s road yacht, crammed into the back of the trailer. The man and wife inside were hurt although not terribly so. But behind them was the little Datsun pickup truck (remember those?) that had hit the Buick hard enough to shove it into my trailer. The two girls inside were badly injured. The driver’s forehead had been essentially peeled back and the flap of skin was hanging down over her face. I eased it back into place and held it there to slow her bleeding until an ambulance arrived. The other girl’s legs were bleeding freely, the dashboard having been pushed down on them just above her knees. Both were unconscious...

Spring break I went to Florida to spend some time with my 8 year-old granddaughter. Waiting our turn to travel the one lane available (road paving) a tractor trailer ran into the line of stopped cars going more than 60 miles per hour. He was “distracted” and didn’t see the signs and the lights, etc. My granddaughter and I were the only ones not hospitalized.
I’m impressed with the Chrysler 300 - it has some kind of passenger safety system from Mercades Benz. I knew the car was totalled front and back, but didn’t realize there was full sized pickup truck on the roof until I got out.

There must be some angels with hurt wings. Bet that you wanted to hug that 8 yo granddaughter extra tight these days.
My granddaughter will turn 5 next month. Grandkids are a special gift from God.
Similar incident in Meridian, MS a few years ago. Coming west on I-20 there is a blind hill just before you enter town. Traffic was stopped for construction just over the hill.
A trucker comes through and smashes into the rear of the line because he couldn’t see it in time. Eastbound truckers were screaming at him on the CB radio to slow down, but he didn’t have it switched on. By all reports he wasn’t speeding, but just couldn’t stop in time. Wiped out a whole family. The end of the line was in exactly the wrong place. Doubtful a car or suv could have avoided it either.
Can’t help but wonder why he didn’t take to the ditch. I must assume he just didn’t have time to react. That area doesn’t have much incline so he could have left the road and stayed upright.
A pickup ON TOP of the car? That’s amazing.
