There’s a lot of redundancy in that list.

"A large caliber rifle, .22 rifle or pistol, 9mm or .45, and pump shotgun are the basics" Three out of four ain't bad, but I guess I need to go shopping!

Well, a wish list is nice to have, but since I’ll soon be joining the unemployed myself, my current little collection is going to have to do.
All I have are two .22 pistols (a Ruger target and a S&W 22a-1), and a 9mm Beretta 92fs.

Such foolish talk, just get rid of the most divisive forces in the country... the marxist obama government, acorn and his black panthers.
The most of it can be cleaned up by protesting and voting!

I have the 870 with the collapsible stock and pistol grip for tight quarters.
Nothing gets people's attention like a pump action being raked.

I agree - you really need just one in each category he mentions (handgun, .22 rifle, large cal bolt gun, semiauto rifle). He’s got multiples in each category there, particularly the semiautos (AK, AR, Garand, Mini).
Also, a Mossberg 500 shotgun can swap in for the Rem 870 and is a bit less expensive.
One thing to consider is standardizing calibers as much as posssible, as in not having 100 different calibers around that would get confusing if TSHTF.

Close range or home protection, I prefer this little darlin!
Shoots a .410 shotgun shell or slug or it can fire a Colt .45 cartridge.
My wife and I love this one.

My suggestions. In approximate, but not exact order, of importance (to me):
1. Pump Action Shotgun (gauge of you're choice but I like 12)
2. Powerful handgun (.357, .44,. 45, 10mm, etc)
3. Semiautomatic military style rifle (AK, SKS, AR, etc.)
4. Powerful bolt action rifle (e.g. 30-06)
5. Smaller caliber rifle (e.g. .22 semi-auto) for inexpensive target practice.
6. Smaller caliber handgun (e.g. .22 ) for inexpensive target practice.
7. ANOTHER semi-auto rifle (ruger ranch rifle or similar)
8. A semi-auto shotgun, same gauge as #1, above.
9. A highly concealable but powerful handgun (Bond Arms derringer or similar)
10. A full on sniper rifle with a powerful scope (30-06, .408, etc. or even .50 cal if that's what you're in to)
That's my “two-cents”; and my recommendations are probably worth what you paid for them.

I would take an AR15 or M1A over an ak47 any day. I reload and can get my old 1903 Springfield to shoot a 3/4 inch group at 100 yards and my M1a will beat that. I don't support communists and I don't like stamped sheet metal parts.

It would be a good idea to have a .22 rifle or .223 varmint rifle to hunt small game if it came down to it. I've got the semi's and the 870, not too much to fill in.
