“Atlas” Has an Itch
Axis of Right ^ | 10/6/2009 | Ryan

Wealthy people are leaving the tax-hell of New York, while 45% of doctors would consider quitting if Obama Care were enacted. Scary prospects for New York’s looter class and the nation as a whole, respectfully, when those who produce, create, innovate and do the hard work at the top are abused to the point of giving up or leaving.

The class-warfare stresses are there:

“They’re rich and greedy; they deserve to be taxed more than the rest of us.“

“Those selfish, greedy doctors – willing to leave the poor, sick people of America because of their own greed.”

I bought Atlas Shrugged at a used book sale last year. I have not read it yet. Maybe I should.

One of the principal reforms of Diocletian was that workers could not move to new locations, and that sons had to pursue the profession of their fathers. I believe this is one of the foundations of serfdom and an economic basis for the later, military, feudal system.

If too many people want to leave NY, we'll just pass a law saying they can't. If doctors try to quit, we'll just say that their kids have to replace them.

Easy Peasy.

Simply put; “Yes you should”!

I was born in Hutchinson. Not sure why that is important. LOL

Definitely read it. It's an eye-opener. For what it's worth, Rand can be verbose, and she isn't fond of religion, and her views of sexuality are odd -- but apart from these things (which I consider flaws) the book is a monumental achievement and well worth the time.

I'm currently reading "Unintended Consequence" by John Ross and I consider it equally as worthwhile.

If people really understood the system of government we've been living under since FDR, there would be blood in the streets tomorrow.

“They’re rich and greedy; they deserve to be taxed more than the rest of us.“...Classic - the "rich" are greedy for wanting to keep the money they worked hard to earn, using their own skills and knowledge, but those who want to help themselves to that money for no other good reason than some made-up higher moral purpose, are not greedy - just silly........

“those who produce, create, innovate and do the hard work at the top are abused to the point of giving up or leaving. “

IMHO, good riddance to bad rubbish. Like the middle classes and poor don’t do all the real work anyway? Good-bye Richard Fuld, good-bye Michael Jackson clones, and the like of Leona Helmsley.

Hutchinson, KS? Why you are a neighbor. Of course that's important. Not to mention the recomendation to read the book!

I tried to read the book as a youngster but the message went WAY over my head.

By the way..........how do you pronounce the author's first name? I know there is a trick but I can't remember what it is.

The entrepreneurial and investor class innovates, the middle classes execute, and the poor just take up space.

Who is more disposable, the guy who hangs sheet rock or the guy who creates and brings a new product to fruition.

I have no doubt you are correct. There should be blood in the streets now, but the momentum is growing. Last summer was the start of the insurrection.

That and the fact that baby boomers are retiring and the golden goose is fading away will at some point in time get the attention of the zoombie money spending machine in Washington............I hope.

Easier yet, if they paid for gasoline like they do everything else. Price up front, tax later, it would start tonight.

Sometimes the rich do. Sometimes however, they inherit, they steal, they lie, and they screw everybody under them and around them. Take the latest little financial meltdown. Truth is, the rich are like everybody else, and often worse because they can afford to be.

“Truth is, the rich are like everybody else...”

Great, then let’s tax ‘em like we tax everyone else. Otherwise, I think we aught to be thanking them for pretty much financing our government for us.

Diocletian also complained a lot that when he mixed lead into the coinage, in a completely unfair way, merchants raised their prices...

His great achievement: He died in bed, unusual for Roman Emperors of that period.

Walk into your hospital main entry next time you’re in the neighborhood. Look at the photomural of the staff physicians. How many of them are from India, Pakistan, or other middle or far eastern nations. If ObamaCare pisses off enough of these people, or the taxes inevitably coming to support ObamaCare dips too deeply into their incomes, will we see the “brain drain” reversed? It would not take more than a few thousand doctors deciding to return to their native lands to precipitate a health care crisis in America. Long lines and waits at the doctor’s office are on the way.

I love your cartoonish Thomas Nast image of “the rich.” You should know, however, that celebutards and trustafarians are but a small percentage of the affluent in this country. The largest group of affluent in this country is comprised of business owners and retired business owners. The next tier below that is comprised of senior management and retired senior management.

I probably do stereotype the rich too much. Its probably a reaction to the Atlas Shrugged cartoon version of them. Mention taxing the rich and people start going apesh*t like “OMG who will give us jobs? We’ll all starve when the rich leave.” That kind of stuff just infuriates me. Completely un-American IMHO. Did the pioneers wait before heading west so that some rich people could get there first to take care of them? If you have ever worked at a big company, the guys at the top are often the least necessary to successful operation of the business.

parsy, who thinks worshipping the rich is a bad thing
