The "straw-dog" that comes out of the liberal circles is that asking people if they are in the US Legally during the census is a horrible act of racism. In actuality it is simply an attempt to guarantee all US Citizens the right to equal representation in congress and equal access to congressional funds and programs.
As set up by the constitution, the purpose of the US Census is to determine the amount of congressional representatives each state receives
Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons. The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct.
Counting the slaves as "3/5ths of a person" was eliminated via the 14th amendment.

The local General Motors plant moved in presses from Michigan and Ohio, along with the 260 accompanying workers to operate same. In the next few weeks we are suppose to hear if a Chinese furniture factory is coming to town. Unemployment is over 10%.
