SEN. LAMAR ALEXANDER COMPARES OBAMA'S WAR AGAINST FOX TO RICHARD NIXON'S "ENEMIES LIST"

Sen. Lamar Alexander, (R-Tenn.), from the Senate floor today, likened President Obama's war against FOX News to former president Richard M. Nixon's infamous "Enemies List". Alexander cited numerous recent examples of groups under siege by Obama's White House, including, as left-of center Politico recently put it, attempting to "neuter" the U. S. Chamber of Commerce, similar to Nixon's tactics forty years ago. Alexander should know. He was an aid of Nixon's in the 1970's.

Take the Smothers brothers.. please!

They were definitely on the enemies list. So where other entertainers.

I know that Tom Smothers is quoted as saying “When Nixon said, ‘I want those guys off,’ they were off.” I.e., CBS canceled their TV show.

Remember there was a "Fairness Doctrine." Opinion had to be "balanced," though it was 99-percent applied to radio only. To the extent that the Nixon administration acted to get the Smothers brothers' TV show canceled it was likely to have been the FCC's "fairness doctrine" route. Anyone could complain to the FCC.

To wit, "Smothers Brothers soon found themselves battling their network and the FCC for the right to say what they wanted on their own show."

There's plenty of documentation about how JFK/LBJ liberals used the "fairness doctrine" to shut down conservative talk -- I still shudder thinking of AM radio of those days, almost nothing but Top-40 -- Mr. Talk Radio was Larry "You don't want higher taxes, don't you love your Country?" King if I remember correctly.

Nixon's ability to "get away with it" was virtually nil compared with the near total control Obama has over the state controlled American media (SCAM). The Clintons' had pretty good control also -- except for whatzhername none of the reports about the Clinton shenanigans had legs.

So who on Nixon's "enemies list" got hurt due solely to illegal actions by the Nixon White House?

It's not that I liked Nixon it's that I hated Nixon's enemies -- and I still do!

Yet another case where President Nixon is getting slimed by comparing him to the current resident in the White House.
Yes, Mr. Nixon had many shortcomings (e.g., meddling with price controls)- but at least he loved his country and did some good things. The current resident is incompetent and over his head. He's bent on turning America into a socialist 3rd world country, and his only skill is waxing eloquently while reading from a teleprompter...Nixon's crime was that the media hated him and they were able to engineer a coup out of vapor ...
