Over 90% of flu cases this year will be caused by the H1N1 strain of virus.
As with the most strains of the flu virus, young children, the elderly, those with comprised immune systems and pregnant women are especially at risk. The H1N1 strain of flu carries a greater risk of complications and death compared to the traditional flu. This is due to the fact that the H1N1 virus causes more severe respiratory complications much faster.

Quite a bit of speculation and what appears to be fear mongering in that article. 1 in 12 will die?
Oh, crap. I'm pretty sure my immune system is comprised of something. I wish they'd told me what it was my immune system should be comprised of to get me out of this group!
It’s a very scary statistic if true. H1N1 is rampant where I live. One of my daughters’ middle school teachers from last year is pregnat. I would not want to be a pregnant teacher right now. It would be very difficult to avoid getting H1N1.
Too bad the vaccine is not available in my area.
I’ve been following this very closely. I have daughters who are high risk for complications from any flu. They both almost died as infants from a respiratory illness (RSV). RSV is much more common and a lot less serious than the flu, and it almost killed my daughters. One of my daughters has a brain injury with epilepsy and other problems as a result of that illness.
I’m upset that we don’t have the vaccine yet.
It’s not fear mongering. It’s just keeping on top of a situation that could be problematic for my children.
