Bishops Call for Massive Catholic Opposition to Abortion in Current Health Care Reform
Catholic Online ^ | 10/29/09

Posted on 10/29/2009 10:16:52 AM PDT by tcg

An E-mail directive has been sent from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Pro-Life Activities Secretariat mobilizing every parish in the United States of America. It contains an urgent message which is to be distributed in every parish this weekend and announced at every single Mass. This massive and urgent appeal may be unprecedented in our history as Catholics in America. It is an effort to mobilize the Catholic faithful on an urgent matter of public policy concerning the fundamental and foundational human right to life.

The E-Mail specifically asks that no parish opt out of this initiative.

We present the E-Mail below for our readers around the globe. We urge that focused prayer be offered for our Bishops in their leadership on this vital effort. We urge all of our readers in the United States to participate fully in the effort.....

The “CONSCIENCE CLAUSE” argument puts the LIE to the “pro-choice” label.

We are forced to tolerate abortions in so far as we can not shoot abortionists or blow them up, and most of us on the PRO LIFE side hold little or no ill-will towards pregnant mothers, no matter their decisions.

However, the entire “choice” argument is a LIE, in that the wacko “greens” want mandatory abortions to “save the planet” and Margaret Sanger, the FOUNDER of Planned Parenthood, wanted “more from the fit, less from the unfit” in her own racist words.

Many who claim to be “pro-choice” will be appalled to learn of the “mandatory abortion” agenda, of the left.

Many who claim to be “pro-choice” will be appalled at the idea that nurses and doctors and insurance companies will be COMPELLED to fund abortions.

The public is OPPOSED to tax payer financed abortions, and this has always been the case.

This issue should be pushed HARD!

(BTW, I wish the Catholic Church would oppose “reform” as currently proposed, due to the Catholic teachings against Socialism and the concentration of power. I wish the Catholic Church would preach “Subsidiarity” from the pulpit, but I will take what I can get!)

Wow! Just like the strong stand they took regarding Ted Kennedy’s funeral and Kerry, and Pelosi, and Biden, and.....yeah, they’re really, really, really tough.

Well, the only way this could have any impact would be for the Bishops to agree and publicize the fact that they will excommunicate any Catholic member of Congress who votes for a bill that includes abortion coverage. I’m not holding my breath. What I am hearing is that the Bishops are so eager to get socialized medicine installed that they will suck up the abortion portion, and that this is all just PR. I hope I’m wrong. But the Bishops have a formidable weapon, if they would just use it. They haven’t so far.

Gee, wonder if all the Catholics who voted for Obama will protest this bill?

Right on all counts.

Subsidiarity is the Methicillin of Socialism.

"Well, the only way this could have any impact..."

...is if people at the parish level push hard on their congresspeople. It's too slackin' easy to say ... " If the Bishops would only..."

This is, strictly, our job.

Good luck with that. Who do you think has more influence over a Democrat elected official, people at the parish level, or Nancy Pelosi and the DNC? I have faxed, emailed, called and personally talked to my personal congressweasel, to no avail. Ditto my senators, who both responded by sending me letters that had nothing to do with the subject. I hope this plan works, but the Bishops really ought to throw their weight around occasionally on an issue as critical as this one.

But..Are the Bishops a day late and a dollar short? That is the question.

Many are more than a day late, but here is an opportunity for them to make amends. I know I'm too hopeful, but it's (past) time for our bishops to publicly call out pro-choice/pro-abortion politicians who call themselves Catholics.

IMHO, the threat of excommunication must be employed. Patrick Kennedy would be a good start.

I have talked to my priest until I am blue in the face. He has no problem with wealth distribution, thinks it’s a great idea. He has backed himself into the same corner that the Bishops occupy.

Well the thing about Excommunication is that it is totally secret. And the steps are serious. (Since it is not a inconsequencial move, may drive sinner further from G-D)

Three abortion types were excommunicate in my former town. The idiots went PUBLIC, can you believe that!!!!
The Bishop when asked, said the Church does NOT comment of this matter.
Hopefully these Bishops have ALREADY sent the offenders THE LETTER.

I share your frustration. But about the bulltin insert? We have to make sure they got the word, that they’re printing them and that they’ll distribute them. No matter how misguided they are about the whole taxation/redistribution thing, they’re supposed to be taking strong action to de-abortionize OR KILL this bill.

Ask your Priest, what the HISTORY of Priests survival rate is in Fascist/Commie/Socialist Regimes.
He probably doesn’t have a clue. Priests (and other religious)are considered to close to the people that these regimes target for control.
