I'm really mixing Apples and Oranges here, but many years ago, I saw the great comic Phil Silvers on the Merv Griffin show. Poor Phil was old, and sick, and confused. It wasn't clear that he knew where he was, and he couldn't provide anything like an intelligent answer to a question -- but he could slip into some comedy bits, and his timing was still there. But, it was sad to see a great man so faded. He passed away very shortly thereafter.

Here we have Gore Vidal in similar situation. Faded, can't get his point across without prodding from Joy Behar, a shell of what he was. The difference is that he doesn't even have comic timing left to him, and he was never really great to begin with. He's just an old pooftah who never did anything and who will die very shortly.

Listen to Vidal imitate Bush. They don’t HEAR the words, they laugh at HOW he says what he says. And yet “if we don’t fight them over there, we’ll have to fight them over here...” is a VERY scary reality that they seem to overlook.

Vidal was ridiculing George Bush because George said we should fight the war over there and not here.
