Vanity, Many of you have some good comments and different perspectives. I would like to get a few of you, if you have time, to leave a comment or two on our blog about Separation of Church and State.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. This is the 1st Amendment from our Constitution and the section of this I wish to analyze is Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;. Why was this important to the founding fathers? How is it we constantly hear the quote separation of church and state?------------ Snip

Separation of church and state is a uniquely Christian concept. It comes to us from the New Testament when Jesus tells us to render undo God what is God’s and render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s.
The intent of socialism to make everything a part of the state, thereby eliminating religion entirely.
Under socialism, the state, not God, is supreme.

but in the Jewish temples and mosques they can talk about politics and who to vote for.
In those so called churches which homos have they have signs saying marriage equality etc and then talk about their agenda which involves politics.
In black churches they talk about politics, ah the old Rev Wright issue comes back
But if you are a catholic , Baptist etc then there is a seperation
Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?
18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? 19 Show Me the tax money.
So they brought Him a denarius.
20 And He said to them, Whose image and inscription is this?
21 They said to Him, Caesars.
And He said to them, Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesars, and to God the things that are Gods.
I don't see where this passage applies to government action. It seems to teach that his followers should obey legal authority. The concept of separation of church and state arose from court decisions and not the bible.

“Separation of church and state is a uniquely Christian concept. It comes to us from the New Testament when Jesus tells us to render undo God what is Gods and render unto Caesar what is Caesars.”
Is it now? Granted the concept first became popular in America but for most of their history, Christian nations did not separate the Church and the State. The pilgrims sure as hell rejected the concept.
A more accurate reasoning behind the separation is in the formation of the US. Some states had their own church and most states had a variety of them, the US wouldn’t have formed if Congress didn’t stay out of religion.

No, they want to make the state the religion too... you must pray to The State for healing! And after The State heard the prayers of the people The State healed them all, as many as would some and believe The State would heal them. [/semi-sarc][/semi-cynic]
>because the Bill of Rights applied exclusively to the Federal government,
Excepting the Second Amendment: whereas the others site “Congress shall not” the Second Amendment is written in the passive voice and makes no distinction to level OR branch of Government with its “SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.” ending.
There is a similar portion of the Constitution. A single sentence so important as to have its own paragraph: “No ex post facto law or bill of attainder shall be passed.”
We’ve seen the above violated so many times that we-as-a-country don’t recognize it as the grievous offense it is and demand the blood of those that violate it. Just this year congress has passed into law items both ex post facto and bill of attainder: the retroactive/punitive AIG bonus taxation, the retroactive repealment of the telecom industry’s immunities from prosecution for complying with the PAtriot Act.
The term “Seperation of Church and State” is the biggest lie to be ever told in regards to the view of the Founders and our Constitution.
There is no intention of “seperation” of church and state in a truely free nation.
I am not at all a religious person and I belong to no church at all or have I ever but I understand that every man and woman deserve to have there place in goverment and to have their views represented regardless if these views are based upon a church or upon a scientific experiement or upon an artistic or philosphical vision of some sort.
The Constitution only forbids government from “establishing” an official religion for All. It does NOT prohibit any church or religion from having “equal” representation under the law. Nor does the Constitution prohibit the open expreession of religion in the public square in any way at all.
In a nation that truely represents freedom then all types of viewpoints have an equal right to representation. Not just secular viewpoints but religious viewpoints as well.
‘Seperation of Church and State’ is a lie. It is NOT apart of our Constitution.
In my opinion, the separation of the church and state is a concept that was originally employed to keep our country from having a state church.
Our founders were well aware of the persecution and corruption that arose from various governments having a church that they ran. They tried to ensure that our government kept its hands off the church. They were NOT concerned that the church was going to run the government.
They were further concerned that individuals have freedom of religion and not be intimidated by the state from practicing their own beliefs.
The concept of the separation of church and state was NOT to prevent the church or individual believers of any stripe from participating in government at any level. That’s how they like to pretend it’s supposed to be implemented today.
I agree with you. To claim that we are a country free of religion is ridiculous because our forefathers came here to escape persecution. Here is a great long story of why it was written the way it was. Long but very good.
