Unions Railroading Florida's Rail Project

Florida is right now at the vanguard of a new railroad project that could bring good news to those that care about solving bloated state budgets, common sense employment laws, and cutting the corruption that comes with unions by pushing for a non-union workforce with its proposed intrastate rail system. And the unions are incensed, naturally...

What I find curious is that just a couple of weeks ago, the MSM was bemoaning "America's crumbling infrastructure", and how "25% of bridges in the USA are unsafe", etc. Yet here they are pushing for a rail system that, as far as I can tell, nobody really wants. Why isn't the focus on fixing the roads?

If they price and harass us out of personal vehicles we won't need as many roads and bridges. Also keep in mind that homesteads such as mine with a family living on 5 acres 12 miles from town are not what the globalists want. They want everyone clustered up and easy to control.

The individual mindset is the greatest threat they face. At the risk of offending some folks, individuality fades in urban settings. The residents may not know it but over time they have come to act like bees. The goal is a global beehive!

Exactly. The POV is the biggest boost to personal freedom in history and that’s why the Left hates them. They clamor for “public transportation” such as buses, subway and rail because they know they can control them. The only thing they like about roads is the patronage and make-work welfare-jobs they create.

A lot of the high speed rail bandwagon seems to believe they get more bang for their buck with hsr; which is probably true if you look at just the design/construction cost per mile of hsr versus roads. With hsr there's continual operating costs that are much higher than maintenance on the same mileage of road though. And the problem is, and we know this from Tri-Rail that's been operating in South Florida for a couple of decades now, that people don't want to give up their cars for hsr; no riders = no revenue to pay for operating costs.

So, why don't peole want to give up their cars for hsr? Because they know we don't have the local public transit in place to get them from the hsr station to wherever they need to go.

For example. I work in what would be considered downtown Orlando. When Sun Rail was on the table they were talking about a depot near the bus station. Well, my work is approx. 5 miles from the bus station. And although I have not looked up the routes, if I had to guess it would take me 30 minutes to go that 5 miles including the walk from the drop off point to the office building. Plus, if I lived say 20 miles north of Orlando the train ride would be approx. 1 hour when you factored in all the stops along the way. That more than doubles my daily commute time.
