If the BCS did the Electorate

If the BCS did elections for us:

2012 Elections breakdown

BCS rankings:

1.) Barack Obama. Big state winner who is the defending champion. Both the AP polls and USA Today polls have him at #1.

2.) Charlie Crist. Big state winner who may win multiple statewide elections for major conference offices of Senate and FL Governor. Popular among AP and USA today pollsters for a Republican.

3.) Mitt Romney. Strength of schedule was weak, but hails from a "big" state. Low polls rankings, but "big" BCS state calculation puts him at #3.

4.) Hillary Clinton. A loss to a then-unseasoned opponent in the Demcorat Primaries drops her to #4. Big state credentials (Senator from NY) keep her BCS hopes alive.

5.) Rudy Giuliani. AP and USA Today polls ranked him low, but big state creds figure for a high BCS number. If he wins the Senate race in big state NY, he'll surely get an additional boost.

6.) Joe Biden. Mid-major state candiate, but a great track record of winning elections. Intra-party national election problems drop him a bit, but he did win the second biggest contest of the last election.

7.) Mike Bloomberg. He survived a surging unknown at the last minute to retain his title. Ranked #2 overall in AP and USA today polls, but has no statewide or national title to his name. Big state Credentials and big city win keep hope alive.

8.) Mike Huckabee. Mid-major state candidate with good election record who pulled a rather shocking upset as far as performance in 2008. AP and USA Today polls rank him #3 overall.

9.) Ron Paul. Very low poll rankings and never a state-wide or national office holder. But the sheer strength of existing in big state Texas brings him into the top ten.

10.) Sarah Palin. Resilient and with a statewide win, she ekes into the top ten. AP and USA Today polls show show a polarized vote (Conservatives voting her as high as #1, with Liberals having her unranked). Her small state hurts her badly; but a shocking runner-up performance in the race for the second-highest office in the land just gets her into the list.

The results?

The BCS has determined the following races for 2012:

1.) President: Barack Obama vs. Charlie Crist. A good matchup between two candidates popular with the pollsters.

2.) Vice-President: Mitt Romney vs. Hillary Clinton. Two bare-knuckles brawlers from big states.

3.) Secretary of State: Rudy Giuliani vs. Mike Huckabee. Mike chosen high because Huckabee fans travel well.

4.) Secretary of the Interior: Joe Biden vs. Mike Bloomberg. A regional rivalry brought to the national stage.

5.) U.N. Ambassadorship: Sarah Palin vs. Ron Paul. Lesser state candidate vs. big state representative. This gives you a true small state underdog to root for in a BCS race.

This BCS Bowl Election matchup best represents the market, and ensures that at least one non-big-state candidate gets a shot at a major office (Huckabee). Small state candidates who have no business being compared to big state candidates will still be in the BCS picture, but will obviosuly not get a shot at the Presidency, as it should be. Nobody seriously believes that a Sarah Palin type can compete with the likes of a Barack Obama, Charile Crist, or Mitt Romney; and nobody should expect that a head-to-head loss to current #1 President Obama should keep big-state NY Champion Hillary Clinton out-of-the picture.

The BCS Electorate knows that the current system will not satisfy EVERYONE, but we know that know system is perfact and will ever satisafy EVERYONE. While the current system may have its flaws, so would a fully-open playoff system of primaries and general elections. We think that the current system best represents the market, and gives a proportionately fair shot to all candidates involved.

Pretty funny. Romney is Notre Dame. Lives off “achievements” from long ago and like ND spends big money with little to show for it.
Hillary Clintonn is like Penn State. No problem with a cupcake non-conference schedule but folds like a tent when faced with a candidate that hit back.

No McCain in the mix. This approach is already better than what we dealt with in 2008.
