Like I said Whatever you buy, you’ll only be as good as you practice. You don't usually sight aim a shotgun at this distance so point and shoot is about it. I don't even have a sight on mine. If you practice a little, you can get the point quickly. Another posted recommended a 20 gauge which for a novice or light weight person seems a good idea to me. 12 gauge is not really needed for human varmints.

Practice is the key and good but even with practice very little of is done with a moving target at close range.

Some years back I was at gun show.

They had tires with plywood screwed to it to make solid target they rolled tires down the hill and people tried to hit them.

when hit they went down fast but most missed.

moving targets under stress is a whole new ballgame.

“My concern is whether or not the split ring will slide between the vented rib and the barrel on the Mossberg.”

I mounted mine on the magazine. It has the added benefit of touching the bottom of the clamp at the front of the aftermarket heat shield I installed and helps to keep it from sliding forward and coming loose. The rings that come with the clamp are 30mm. I wouldn't bother with this clamp however if you've got something working already.
