Hmmm. He must have seen the polls. If this isn't a full retreat, I have never seen one.

Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) reached out Thursday evening to South Carolina GOP Attorney General Henry McMaster, the leader of a group of 13 Republican state attorneys general who are threatening to file suit against the Senate health care bill, and urged him to forgo any legal action, POLITICO has learned.

According to a copy of a memo sent by McMaster’s chief of staff to other GOP state attorneys general detailing the call, Nelson asked McMaster to “call off the dogs,” a reference to recent threats by the state AGs to file a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of a Medicaid provision in the bill that benefits Nebraska at the expense of other states. . . .

As an aside, Karl Denninger has an interesting take on the Senate Socialist Medicine bill.

He thinks that it has been deliberately written to be unconstitutional (the requirement of the citizenry to purchase health insurance). That the plan is to pass it, be sued, and have it the bill so stated that if the requirement of the citizenry is determined to be unconstitutional, that the federal government will have no choice but to offer the government option, thus cramming through the “socialist” aspect of this tyrannical effort much earlier.

The idiots could spare themselves a lot of grief if they actually listened to some real people.

I think they need to depose Nelson, Obama and Axelrod to find out what was actually promised and threatened.

I always thought that this was the case but, it hasn't passed yet so it's difficult to understand what dynamics are really at play.

However, with the latest terrorism scare it hard to tell which way the wild pigs with stampede.

Yep. It takes a real arrogant or just plain stupid SOB to do what he did.

I hope there is no escaping his fate by apologizing. The POS deserves to be tarred and feathered.

I hope somebody asks Rod Blagojevich for his opinion on what is happening with this vote-buying behavior from his fellow Democrats.

Read the article. He's not backtracking at all. He's just trying to weasel out of repsonsibility for his greed. Basically, for those who don't want to read it, he says it wasn't his idea, it was a placeholder for other fixes to come later that would extend the same provisions to all states. Good grief!

Senator Nelson told the attorney general that it was simply a ‘marker’ placed in the U.S. Senate version of the bill and assured the attorney general that it would be ‘fixed,’ says the memo.

Yeah, right. Hey SC AG, a Democratic Senator's words are worth nothing - keep up the lawsuit!! GO! GO!

And what happens if, uh oh, the marker doesn't get fixed?
