Your baby is gorgeous! I'm a little partial to Ragdolls though :).....

Here is my Toby. He had his 1 year birthday two days ago on Jan. 3rd. Sweetest kitty I think I've ever had. He's stolen my heart.
Toby (Ragdoll) and Tasha (Tortie)

He's with his 18 year old sister, Tasha (showing a little Tortie-tude!)

OMG...Toby is beautiful. They say the male Ragdolls are the sweetest. I love the “white star” on his forehead! How have the others been doing with the new guy?

Theya ll get along pretty well. Only one Long hair female doesn’t play well with others. She has her own “suite” upstairs that is off limits to the others...her safe haven.

First pill sucessfully down Miss Peach. Ate very well this a.m. Still looks a little rough from the stay at the vets. She climbed the stairs and slept on her pillow.

Thanks to all of you for your support.

It might be worth transitioning your cat over to a raw-food diet. High protein, moderate fat, and very, very low carbs. It will keep their blood sugar on an even keel. Changing cats over can be difficult because cats eat what they already are used to. It would probably also lower the risk of renal failure.

I had looked into that before. After seeing how much diabetic dry food costs, I opened the fridge and pulled out some steak. She loved it.

Good news! How’s the wrist?

I was pleased with her all evening and even into the night and then this a.m. was her first pill. I got it right down her. I had rolled it in wet cat food.

She ate and asked for more, which I thought was good. But about 2 hours later she started to shake. She wanted to be in the cold red porch and hide under the bench. So I just left her there as that is where she wanted to be.

A few hours later she wanted to come back in the house. But I had also opened the door to the garage and I know she likes to explore out there.

Then the afternoon she was so normal. When I came back she wanted to be groomed and from then on she acted normal and laid in her normal places. It may have been a reaction to the pill. But she looks pretty good now.

The wrist hurt a lot after a short nap. I had not taken the ibuprofen. So I just took some.

The Dr. will be open tomorrow. Today was an Amish holiday and the whole town was shut down.

I got out the human anatomy book and learned (relearned) that there are a lot of little funny shaped bones right where it hurts. The carpels. It is not discolored and only slightly swollen.

More later.

Did you get any info on side-effects of the pill? You may want to look on the net about it. Just like us, not every medicine works the same for everyone. When do you take her back to check if meds are working properly?

Re, your wrist...did you put some ice packs on it when it first happened? It may still help the pain and swelling, just not for more than 20 min. at a time. I fell and hurt my wrist years ago. It was a Saturday night and it really hurt. I put ice on it and wrapped an ace bandage around it. I called the doc on Sunday, and he asked me if I could move my fingers, which I could. He said it was probably a sprain or bruise, but to come in Monday for x-rays. It turned out to be a fracture of the inside wrist bone. Had to have a finger to elbow cast for six weeks then a brace for about a month more. All’s ok now, but you should get an xray to be sure. Hope you and Miss Peach turn out alright. I’ll be praying for y’all.

I woke up last night in pain. So off to any Dr. that is open today. Of course we are expecting a huge snowstorm.

Worst case scenario....4 broken bones....best case...only sprain or jam.

Miss Peach was able to spit her pill out three times before I finally got it down her. She looks pretty good this a.m.

http://www.baytril.com/13/Safety_and_Toxicology.htm

There didn’t seem to be any indications for cats, some for humans.....so maybe Miss Peach is more human that cat.

Baytril is used in lower doses in cats, but there can be side effects:

Neurological Side Effects -— Baytril can cause seizures, depression and lethargy in cats.
Behavioral Side Effects -— Baytril can cause vocalization and aggression in cats.
Serious Side Effects -— In rare instances, Baytril can lead to a loss of vision in cats that in very rare cases can be permanent.

Also, there are many canned cat foods of all different brands and price ranges that are OK-to-great for diabetic cats, you just need to learn to read the side label. Even a few really inexpensive WalMart brands are OK -— the canned Salmon Dinner comes to mind as one for about 50 cents a can.

The problem with homemade diets is that the vitamin/mineral/essential protein balance is hard to get just right; and raw diets sometimes have salmonella and ecoli issues that aren’t fun to deal with, especially in an already sick cat.

As far as feeding a good meat diet at meals and then letting the cats snack on dry food (dry kibble = “cat cookies”) in between -—
my brother ate the great nutritious and healthy meals his wife prepared for him (for nearly 50 years now, their 50th is this spring) but snacked on cookies, doughnuts/donuts, candy, and all sorts of other high carb junk in between meals, and he is a type 2 diabetic now -—
just saying!!!

Good luck with your arm!!! Hope there is nothing broken there.

X ray showed no broken bones so far. The Dr. said there is one bone that is notorious for showing up later, say two weeks. I got a nice little brace on it now.

Cat is acting normal today, spit out the pill three times before I got it down her.
