Once Again Unions Find a Pliant Judge to do Their Bidding

In another example of why unions are antithetical to good government, a pliant, left-wing judge in California has ruled that the Schwarzenegger Administration cannot furlough state workers that belong to three powerful public employees unions.

Governor Schwarzenegger has been battling to cut his over spent state budget for several years now and one of the solutions to the problem that he lit upon was the idea that he might furlough his workforce. He would give these workers a few days a month off without pay and this would save the taxpayer's millions. It is a good idea and one that real-world businesses are forced to employ all the time when things get tough...

Oh it's worse than that.

Taxpayers that can't legally say "no" are being treated like slaves.

Government wastes our tax money too. I’m a small business employer, I can’t afford to be without my employees a few days a month, even if it saves me money. Many small businesses have made the tough decision to cut pay, retirement benefits and other things. Employees still work their regular hours and more, covering for laid off workers. If the government can afford to be without a whole lot of employees a few days a month, they can afford to cut a few employees. This growth and waste of government is not sustainable by business. We don’t have the cushy benefits and paid time off, but we work our as*es off to pay more and more taxes. Let them go belly up. Who cares. Starting over from scratch sounds like a good plan.

Seems unlikely that a judge could rule that the workers are entitled to X number of working days (thereby stating an employer HAD to be open for business X number of days.)
Mandating bankruptcy is what the ruling is. Arnold should forget about a bailout, file by whatever mechanism a state can and fire all the workers and rehire on the states terms.

Firing from the hip here, but wasn’t it Andrew Jackson who said “The judge has made his ruling. Now let him enforce it”?
