Just a quick vanity post to tap the consciousness of the Free Republic...

It seems the news has been full of Obama showing weakness this past year, and the dems in congress not helping matters... but does anyone have any idea, news or thoughts about Osama Bin Laden and what he's been up to?

I ask cause I haven't read much news lately about him, and if that old evil fox of a man is still around, I gotta gut feeling that he'd probably be on the move for continuing his jihad against the west.

He is long dead.

All the various parties, from ours to theirs have a vested interest in keeping him ‘alive’. But there is no CREDIBLE evidence that he has been alive in the last 7 years, and a fair amount of evidence that he isn’t even worm food anymore.

I could write a thesis on the why’s and wherefores, but am too lazy to do it now.

Nothing I've seen over the past nine years has convinced me he is dead.

I base this on gut instinct.

I think the official position of the CIA is that he is alive and has sent videos and audios attributed to him.

There are those who believe he was killed in large-scale bombing, and those who believe he escaped that bombing.

I stipulate the crypto-islamist in the Oval Office is the greatest present danger to national security.

Perhaps he is neither dead nor alive. I believe he was transposed into a small monkey like creature by the use of voodoo and is, even as we speak, whirling around in space in an semi-concious state

If he's not dead he might as well be. AQ is a marginalized organization now that is only a faint shadow of what it once was. They have some senior guys that moved to Yemen to take advantage of the civil war there, but they're done as a worldwide organization.

The movement AQ started however is going strong, with other organizations stepping in to fill the void of international jihad, it is this broader jihad movement that must be tracked, analyzed and hunted to extinction.

The real problem isn't that killing the individual organizations is hard, it isn't. Track, localize, eliminate/subvert. Killing the ideas and imagined or real grievences that are behind radical Islam is the real mission here, and a far harder one to accomplish.

Prior to 9/1 OBL was not the shrinking violet. He prepared scores of tapes, visited scores of mosques, lectured university students and when in Afghanistan sought converts to Salafist Islam. Later, he upbraided Saudi ruling class, founded an opposition group in exile in London, a city he would ocasionally visit. After founding Al Qaeda in August 1988 there was no doubt who was in charge,and it wasn’t Zawahiri who was busy with his own Egypt Islamic jihad. In short, for him to disappear from view, issue some questionable tapes and stills is not in character. Dead? Yes dead as a doornail either at Tora Bora in late 2001, or shortly thereafter. The CIA has kept him alive because he is money in the bank for their operation. They cannot prove, however, that he is alive, but despite that essential fact no one in Washington seems to care.

I read an article on another site recently that wondered if keeping AQ alive but powerless wasn't a better strategy than eliminating it completely. Keeping it alive as a known entity to draw would be terrorists and funding, while at the same time tracking back the sources of that manpower and funding and continuing to map the various networks throughout the world. Some agreed and some disagreed that it was a good idea, I think its a decision that has alot of risk and its probably a better decision to eradicate it and move on.

As for OBL being alive, who cares really, if he is alive he's so far into hiding that he's not planning anything anytime soon. Still keep an eye out for him and if he pokes his head up, take it off, but its time to move on to bigger fish.

Indeed, my FRiend Dog has remained steadfast in the belief the OBL isn't dead. I on the other hand started posting the Elvis Bin Laden within a month of his death back in Dec 2001.

Devsix for who I have up most respect, due to his position, states, (he uses the UBL translation version,) that he's alive and being pursued.

OBL isn't a problem anymore. Our worst president ever, BHO, presents a far greater danger to US.
