Ken Cuccinelli won the Virginia Attorney General's race in November. At the time, he was the sitting state senator in the 37th Senate District, which is in Fairfax County and includes Burke, Centreville, West Springfield, Fairfax and Chantilly. The county has recently (though not in November) trended very blue. Today is the special election to fill Cuccinelli's seat. Steve Hunt is the Republican and needs your vote.

Per the map, do the voters in this special election have to reside in the red areas?

You have to reside in the 37th district to vote in that race.

As noted in other comments, there’s also a special election for the 8th Virginia Senate district today.

Jeff McWaters, the founder and former CEO of Amerigroup is the Republican and I forget the ‘Rat who’s running. McWaters will win. The ‘rat announced he was running a month or so ago and was never heard from again.

This looks fishy.

The State Board of Elections shows Marsden up 11,943 to 11,626 with all precincts reporting.

The absentee ballots went 800 to 395 for Marsden.

The absentee difference was not only more than the margin of victory, Marsden got a higher percentage of absentees than either candidate got in ANY precinct in the district.
