At the top of the matter, lets not think that any US government aid to Haiti will ever reach the poor. We all feel for the agonizing Haitian poor if we have any conscience; but that said, dont think that any US government aid will reach the poor.

Remember all the mispent money during Katrina. Mobile homes that sat vacant and finally rotted, debit cards that were resold rather than used for necessities, etc. Your donations will go further if you send money to private charities that have very small administration costs.

mission stations that you know about and the salvation army are trustworthy.
I donate thru my church. They have a national disaster relief department that is linked to an umbrella of charities that respond as a group to intl disasters.
Go through your local church; if it has a good structure within your denomination.
That’s what I’m doing. I know some of the folks who coordinate our national efforts for these situations. It also opens the possibility to send people with needed skills later on if needed.
giving through your local church can hardly be anything but good for you are there at the church and can keep track over time as to what that relief has done in the past. . .

giving through the local church for ongoing evangelistic efforts, etc. is probably the best way to give in the name of the Savior. you keep tabs via the local and therefore can know what is really going on.
FNC commented that the best way to donate was through NGO’s. They have a list on their web site.
