John McCain clings to more liberal positions than almost any other Republican in Congress. Whether encouraging economic suicide by standing against drilling in Alaska, putting the nation's security at risk by equating waterboarding with torture, demanding the shuttering of Guantanamo, joining hands with Ted Kennedy to open the floodgates of amnesty to illegal immigrants, nothing seems to satisfy his vanity more than hearing compliments from the leftist press after crossing over to the other side of the aisle.
Now that the Supreme Court has declared much of his crown legislative jewel -- the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (McCain-Feingold) -- to be unconstitutional, perhaps it's finally time for John McCain to go back to Arizona while preserving the luster from his honorable national service. The court's firm rejection of key funding provisions in McCain-Feingold reveals the philosophical dead-end that bipartisanship for its own sake often produces.

And likewise if Sarah knows these things (and all indications are that she does) and doesn’t stand up for the principles she espouses, what does that do to her credibility?
I tend to agree with you about Palin. She will campaign for McCain out of loyalty - and people will turn out in droves to see her, not so much out of support for him. I think folks will overlook her association with McCain, much as they did by holding their noses in Nov ‘08.

Correct me if you can, BUT I HAVE ALWAYS SAID THAT HAD MCLAME NOT PLACED PALIN ON THE TICKET, HE WOULD HAVE LOST BY ANOTHER 20,000,000, in perhaps the biggest GOP loss in history! I held my nose and voted for the ticket ONLY because she was on the ticket!

I thought she was putting America first ... but evidently her personal sense of “honor” transcends America’s needs for conservative leadership
We would all be better served if this arrogant confused ineffectual old liberal-patsy RINO would retire with what honor he has left, and make way for a true conservative Senator - what say the people of Arizona?

Here we are nearly three years from the election and already we are beset with trolls and Sarah-detractors demanding that she be thrown overboard for saying she will honor what she feels is an obligation to someone to whom she is thankful. I can't imagine how deranged the flack will get as we get nearer the election or nominating process.
Part of me wishes she would just tell the world, “Never mind. I was mistaken when I thought you were ready for me and for sane, conservative government. I'll go away for now and enjoy my life, my family, my God and my INCOME. Call me when you come to your senses.” Sadly, she won't she's too classy for that.
I am spending my time working on handling the drivel that keeps flowing from the anti-Sarah forces. It's going to take a lot of work, but I think I can get through. Respectful, considered posts such as yours help a lot! Thanks.
IMHO, it's the people who are busy insisting on jettisoning Sarah Palin, because she fails their purity test, that helped give us Obama and his minions. Hopefully we can overcome this insane drive they have to kill the good in search of the perfect.
Meanwhile, I guess we'll just have to take the time and effort to respond as politely as possible to their postings.
Some people have a sense of loyalty and duty that overrides their common sense.
I think we are seeing a case of that with Sarah.

The row she has to hoe I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. It will get exponentially worse the closer we get to decision time and as her popularity increases.
I'm not sure the population or the Republicans are ready for her. The population and the Republicans surely need her. I hope she can keep her looks with thick calluses.
The main thing detractors said about Reagan is that he was a stupid lightweight. He was always able to maintain his sense of humor about it. The depth of his writings and serious discussions showed a man both very smart and very wise.
I hope Sarah Palin is that way. Reagan didn't bend to the insults because they didn't mean anything to him. To my way of thinking Palin always sounded much smarter than she was given credit. These days as she has had time to study issues she sounds even better.
If I understand her book, she is also a deeply religious woman. I can say first hand, that helps.
The problems the next President will have are far more difficult that the need to care about the person. I don't know who else in the Republican Party has the tools to do the job or get the job. There are a number of nationally known Republican politicians I can easily support. I haven't seen a single one of them move a crowd of ANY size the way I have watched Sarah Palin move them.
Judging from the shear panic I see among MSM commentators, I'm not the only one to notice that.
She’s doing a fund-raiser in March, we vote in August... and Joe Arpaio will trump Palin in Arizona.
Indeed. But as you point out NONE of them can hold a candle to her when it comes to getting people to turn out and pay attention.
I have tried several times to figure out how you go about putting your money where your mouth is with Intrade and going with Sarah as being the next President. Maybe I'm just thick, but darned if I can figure out how it works. I need an “Intrade for Dummies” book!
Her ability to command the attention of the masses is more important to me than her understanding of policies and programs. You can't learn that innate ability she has to be able to speak to people. At least not to the extent she has it. OTOH, almost anyone can study up and learn about history and policy and programs, etc.
Thankfully she has both. Unlike Obama, who also could draw huge crowds, she has actually accomplished something in life and didn't spent her formative years at the feet of really bad people.
I'm content to bide my time and see how she does. I see nothing to be gained by rushing to judgment at this point.
