Being a good conservative, I am torn on this story! It seems that the teachers union in New York State refused to comply with some simple requirements in cooperation with the state government so that New York could qualify for $700 million in federal stimulus money from a program known as Race to the Top.
Now, on my fiscally conservative side I am glad that the federal government won't be sending this $700 million to New York. In fact, I'd like to see every state be refused this money. In fact, I'd like the federal government itself to be refused this money by the taxpayers...

Texas is voluntarily excluding themselves from this money due to the federal strings that are attached. You take the money and they own your curriculum apparently.
700 million is a pittance to these union thugs.
You are right, the teachers DON’T care about the students.
They don’t want “merit” pay.
If merit pay were implemented, they know that most of the teachers would lose money.
Unions are usless. When times get hard remember, Unions do not feed your family. Your hard work does.
THE FUTURE OF AMERICA WOULD BE FAR ROSIER IF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENNT RELEASED THEIR PROGRESSIVE HOLD ON LOCAL SCHOOLS IN ALL STATES. LOCAL CONTROL, WITH PARENTAL INPUT, WORKED BEST SWANS POLICAL CORRECTNESS INSERTED BY THE FEDS. TO TAKE BACK AMERICA, WE MUST FIRST TAKE BACK OUR SCHOOLS!
In Texas, this amounted to about 2 days of state-wide operations costs. The strings would have cost much more in mandates, etc. You always have to look behind the curtain to check out what strings are attached and who’s pulling them.
Right on!
