The historic blizzard dumping 2 feet of snow on Washington DC was evidently enough to cancel the administration's daily press briefing today but not President Obama's political activities. While the daily briefing with White House press secretary Robert Gibbs was cancelled due to the storm, it didn't stop Mr. Obama from speaking to party activists at the winter meeting of the Democratic National Committee.

With the city virtually shut down due to treacherous conditions, the presidential motorcade of SUV’s proceded to a DC hotel so the president could engage in politics as usual and give yet another political speech to a friendly crowd.
Of course he couldn’t postpone his speech to his party’s faithful until tomorrow as that would conflict with his other important weekend appointment; the president and his wife will be hosting a Super Bowl party at the White House. Among the guests expected are nine Cabinet members and eight members of Congress. (source)
Nice to know that even during a blozzard that interupts the regular business of the administration, Mr. Obama is still able to play politics and throw parties.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has upgraded the Winter Storm Warning to a Blizzard Warning, beginning at 10:00 PM tonight, and continuing until 10:00 PM tomorrow. The Winter Storm Warning will remain in effect until 10:00 PM. A Blizzard Warning means wind gusts will exceed 35 mph, snow is likely to be extremely heavy, and visibility will be reduced below 1/4 mile. Snow totals of 20-30” are expected in the D.C. area, with localized amounts exceeding 30”. Please make sure to secure all loose objects on your property. This extremely dangerous storm is expected to produce record snowfall for the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Travel conditions tonight will be extremely hazardous and life-threatening, and all citizens are urged to remain indoors.
