Paranoia Strikes Deep in Obama's America
The American Thinker ^ | February 10, 2010 | Robin of Berkeley

I usually don't go anywhere near my leftist hubby's reading material. While he subscribes to Mother Jones and Newsweek, I buy National Review. His emails are from moveon.org; mine from Newt Gingrich.

However, after being home for three days with a bad cold, I was desperate to read something new. So I reluctantly picked up one of his Harpers.

I was pleasantly surprised that the magazine carried an article, The Mendacity of Hope, critiquing Obama's first year. The author, Roger D. Hodge, even confronts Obama on the hypocrisy of eliminating water boarding yet supporting torture in the form of overseas renditions.

But if Dave says that aliens are torturing him, he may be a schizophrenic.

Socialists are convinced the Conservative Tea Party movement consists of aliens while illegal aliens are no threat.

While I think it is incredible compassionate of this woman to have sentenced herself to be married to a liberal, I would strongly advise her to reread Desiderata. It cautions people to avoid those who are “vexatious to the spirit.” There are times when divorce is entirely justified.

And, one more thing: watch your back. Because, as the unmarried women of Salem learned hundreds of years ago, paranoia stoked by the powerful can be a dangerous thing.

Most dictators have paranoid personalities and are able to encourage paranoid delusions in their followers. They do this, consciously or unconsciously, in order to solidify their support and distract their followers from any real problems (since dictators are never effective at actually running anything). All they have to do is find an identifiable enemy and point people in that direction. This is how and why Hitler was able to get his entire country to go after the Jews. Those who didn't join in the pursuit of Jews were too afraid to offer any opposition.

I would say that Obama would go after whites, the way the African thug dictators have done, except that the big difference is that whites are the majority in this country. While he can demonize whites, thanks to help from the (white) MSM, there aren't really enough blacks to effectively enforce his threats.

Most Hispanics identify as white or, in the case of Caribbean Hispanics with black blood, as "not American black," and in fact that could be one of the things that is stopping him from gaining full support among them. It's also one reason he's focusing on Haiti, which has a non-Hispanic black Caribbean population that is 100% pro-Obama and black separatist, and he thinks an infusion of Haitians in the US will help him.

Race is an easy way for Obama to target the delusions of his followers, since he has been a racist - the academically approved, left-wing kind - since adolescence and obviously really believes it. But I don't think he's going to be able to use race for the kind of control he wants.

I don't think he'll go after Jews, although black separatists have a rather ugly track record in that respect. For one thing, there are Jews among his left-wing associates, and I can't imagine that most of them would stand back and let him attack Jews. I think he might take aim at Christians, possibly particularly at Catholics, since they have always been an identifiable minority in the US and were often the focus of hatred in the past. Yet many very left-wing and even black separatist denominations that would be perfectly acceptable to him call themselves Christian, so I'm not sure that term would be specific enough for him to stir up hatred.

Or possibly he will impose something that no real Christian or Jew can agree with, demand consent to it, and sort out Christians and religious Jews on that basis. As in the case of the women of Salem, once people's fears are focused on a defined enemy, the momentum of persecution takes over on its own. The question is how he is going to define that enemy.

The view of most libs towards conservatives was encapsulated by Bob Shrum’s reaction to Sarah Palin’s Tennessee Tea Party speech. It was all “hate” speech. Yes, that’s the kind of reasoned discourse conservatives can expect from libs. Conservative talk about limited government? Why, it’s all “hate” speech. Which just proves that most libs, like Shrum, are basically infants in the reasoning and logic department.

Robin is a “recovering liberal” herself and has only been active in the conservative movement for a couple of years.

Her husband hasn’t had the good sense to acompany her out of the “dark side” yet.

Thanks. I’ll keep her continued recovery in my prayers — and pray for a miracle in her husband’s psyche!
