Former Vice President Dick Cheney ducked answering whether former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is qualified to be president, saying only that he has not decided whom he will back in 2012.
Mr. Cheney also dismissed Mrs. Palin's warning that President Obama might declare war on Iran for political purposes, saying U.S.-Iran differences will not be resolved by "simple political calculations."
In an appearance Sunday on ABC's "This Week," Mr. Cheney was asked by host Jonathan Karl, "Is [Mrs. Palin] qualified to be president?"
Mr. Cheney neither answered the question nor mentioned Mrs. Palin specifically, saying only that whoever he backs "is going to have to prove themselves capable of being president of the United States. And those tests will come during the course of campaigns, obviously. I think - well, I think all the prospective candidates out there have got a lot of work to do if, in fact, they're going to persuade a majority of Americans that they're ready to take on the world's toughest job."

Dick Cheney = RINO
Did little Jonathan also ask if BO was qualified to be president?
Who cares what Cheney’s mom thinks?
I agree with Cheney. Governing Alaska for 2 years doesn’t cut it. I’d vote for almost anyone over Obama, including Palin, but the Republicans should be able to do better. Maybe Mitch Daniels of Indiana? He’s not exciting, but I don’t think the Republicans need an exciting candidate to beat Obama in 2012.
He’s mum on everyone, not just Palin. Funny how some take a generic statement and spin it to meet their agenda.
I think the lady in our local mini-mart has more experience than Obama ... the idea to question Sarah on her experience is ________________ (fill in the blank).
I noticed that. Cheney is playing PC, probably stung by folks who criticize him for being too outspoken. He came off like a true Republican, while the Dems, even the current Prez and VP tee-off intemperately on anyone they please without regard to the protocols of or respect for their offices.
*chuckle*
Yeah, yeah. Aren't we all?
It's amazing to me that the same media that glossed over the fact that Obama may not even meet the Constitutional requirements to be president, keeps harping on Palin’s qualifications.
No he is not. That was a truly reprehensible thing to say about a man who has given so much to this country and who is willing to take such heat for it.
Cheney is smart and capable and admirable. And he’s also right: it would be ridiculous to endorse any possible candidate this far out.
Nobody — including voters — should have their minds made up already.
A lot can happen before 2012, both to candidates and in the world. Let’s let those who think they can handle the job fight it out and prove to us that they have the qualifications and the grit.
Is it me, or are the only people who really care the media?
“Dick Cheney = RINO”
I guess I’m a RINO and did not know it. Learn something new every day.
Sorry, I thought my sarcasm would have been clear since the statement, on its face, is so profoundly ridiculous. I was merely beating those to the punch who I'm sure clearly will be branding Cheney a RINO because of his refusal to answer the question.
Sorry.
Anyone come to mind?
Brother, they really want to pitt Cheney against Palin, don’t they? All I read was that he said whoever he supports will have to prove themselves worthy. Makes sense. I guess the MSM can’t comprehend that.
I meant to write the Republicans *don’t* need an exciting 2012 candidate.
I realize your implied sarc....
except for his whole lesbian daughter thing, he is about as conservative as they come.
