With crime down ten percent almost across the board nationally in 2009, the Bradys are complaining about lax gun laws in most U.S, States. This is contrary to the proven proposition that more guns equals less crime.

About 20% of all Brady instant checks (14 million of some 60 million total background checks) since they began in 1994 were conducted last year in 2009. Struggling to appear to be relevant, here's the latest Brady attempt at grasping at gun control straws.

"WASHINGTON - February 18 - Most states have weak or non-existent gun laws, helping feed the illegal gun market and allowing the sale of guns without background checks including at gun shows, according to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. Forty-three states fail to close the loophole that allows criminals to buy guns at gun shows without Brady background checks. Scores range from the first-ever "zero," earned by Utah, to 79 for California. The complete scorecard results can be accessed at www.bradycampaign.org.

"Most states, unfortunately, are doing very little to protect citizens from gun violence. Most states are allowing dangerous people to have easy access to guns," said Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. Few states have laws addressing the critical issue of gun trafficking such as requiring background checks on all gun purchases at gun shows. The Brady Campaign is advocating for legislation to close the gun show loophole at the national level.

Many states with weak gun laws have a high percentage of crime guns recovered that were originally purchased within their own state. The Brady Campaign relates this "homegrown" gun violence to the lack of gun laws in many states and nationally.

"Since most states don't require Brady criminal background checks on all firearms including those at gun shows, gun...

Must be a bummer being a gun-grabber these days. Who could have imagined it twenty years ago?

They need to hire a bevy of nubile interns and have them do naked publicity stunts like the PETA people.

Indiana didn’t do so bad with a 6, but we need to shoot for a 0, like Utah.

Too bad for them, they can’t even have a good old fashioned gun free zone shooting without it being a Left Wing wacko.

My guess it that gun grabber, far Left National Socialist’s would love it if crime went up, right?

We can always play the game of count the number of bald faced lies in that press release though.

ALL states would be rated 0 on the Brady Scale if they followed the Second Amendment right as written in the Constitution.

I agree. I am a bit disappointed with my state's (Wyoming) score of a 10. I like to use the Brady scores of a checklist as to which laws we still need to revoke. Hopefully a couple of the bills coming down the pipe (concealed carry w/o a permit and Wyoming Firearm Freedom act) will lower our score a bit.
