Tiger Woods: a Mommy’s Boy?
Big Bureaucracy ^ | February 19th, 2010 | Ellie Velinska

Posted on 02/19/2010 9:29:45 AM PST by Big Bureaucracy

Nothing kills the sex-talk faster than a hug between a mother and a son after a religious discussion. Tiger’s apology statement was one of the weirdest things I’ve seen in a long time and probably the most un-sexiest.

It appeared as Tiger Woods’s mother told him: “Go there, you little rascal, and say you are sorry. And write 100 times “I will not cheat again and I will obey my religion”. It was so infantile that I guess every woman out there watching would be thinking – did Tiger get out of puberty?

The word sex was notably absent. The speech writer masterfully danced around it. There is nothing that makes the sex more distant from the present than a hug from a mom – ask every daughter-in-law.

I have to admit that I personally don’t care about golf so watched the show just to observe a celebrity with moral shortcomings trying to come back in the game. The whole set-up reminded me of a Mark Twain novel – you could almost hear the Sunday school voice:

… I want you all to sit up just as straight and pretty as you can and give me all your attention for a minute or two. There –that is it. That is the way good little boys and girls should do….

The only difference is that some of the attendees were Buddhist. .............

Then you have no reason to even comment on this, right Ellie? I guess you just like to watch people squirm.

Well, he was not playing golf, he was addressing the public, so I have a right to comment.

I agree. I thought FR was all about being able to comment on things.

He invoked the Buddhist faith; but I think Brit Hume had it correct - he ought to convert to Christianity as it allows for sinners to repent, embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ, and be forgiven.

The Christian concept of God is one of a loving Father who sent his Son to redeem us, and sends the Holy Spirit to sustain us; it is a religion of hope in forgiveness and in the Resurrection.

I really do not know what the Buddhist philosophy of life is. Can anyone here explain it?

Is that you Ellie? Sure, you have “right” to comment.

But who on this forum really needs to hear the blathering, socialist/Entertainment Tonight/ soccer-mom point of view? It’s Tiger Woods, so those who do care about the game know what is going to happen. If you don’t “personally care about golf” you’re simply commenting because it is salicious.

Welcome to the forum, btw.

"Then you have no reason to even comment on this, right Ellie? I guess you just like to watch people squirm."

Precious few humans actually like to "watch people squirm", as you put it. But if Mr. Woods is squirming it is because of what he has done to himself, his family, his business partners, his soul and to the sport of golf. May he squirm for a long time, long enough to destroy his future in golf, a sport in which he gained unfair advantage through the use of STEROIDS. He's a scum from the inside out.

Suberfuge, Thanks. That is me Ellie, I am a soccer mom - true. I also have a Master’s in psychology and thought it was a clever way to keep the “sex” aspect of the Tiger’s problems out of the room. They kept the attention on the mother-son relationship. I thought it was a smart PR stunt. May be the politicians can use it next time they have to explain affairs. Golf has nothing to do with the cheating. I said I am not interested in golf. I am interested in family affairs.

There is being a “mommy’s boy,” and then there is respecting one’s parents. Not that the media have an inkling about the latter.

You noobs are pretty opinionated.

Problem is, you’re a moron.

Did people not mind watching OJ squirm at his trial? You’re wrong on that one.

Tiger has declared many times that the PGA should begin drug testing immediately. Wrongo again!

And finally, it’s odd that liberals like you claim to know what is “inside” a person. It’s as if you are personally offended by Tiger’s actions so you make things up. What’s your handicap?

I said I am not interested in golf. I am interested in family affairs.

Fair enough. I didn't see the press conference, so I can't really comment on that. But your "Mommy's Boy" title gave away your opinion and showed you've made up you mind about the man. What he has done to himself and his family is sad and very wrong, but this fatal human-flaw of his shouldn't be the entire measure of the man.

By all accounts, this wealthiest of atheletes has conducted himself with the utmost dignity in all other aspects of his life. He got caught, is paying a price, and hopefully, will put his family back together. Maybe we could all just let him do that without piling on?

As for myself, I happen to be interested in golf and not interested in people's personal affairs. If it were the guy down the street that had done what Tiger's done it wouldn't have interested anyone. He has been on his own since the age of 19 and I can't imagine many others in his position not have some sort of meltdown. Though his closely guarded personal life is annoying to some, it's still his life and not ours, so I say leave him be.

Subterfuge, Fair enough. I hope Tiger will make his fans proud. There is a question mark at the end of my title. if you actually make it to the end of the original article (it is short) you will see that I believe the American people will give Tiger a second chance.

Nah, problem is you're an inoperable hemmorhoid on Woods' sexually perverted, steroid filled arse.

Tiger Woods before steroids.

Tiger Woods after steroids.

NUFF SAID.
