Republicans and the Health Care Summit
The Cypress Times ^ | 2/25/10 | Kevin Price

President Barack Obama's health care bill is on the fast track to no where. He made a radical, socialized medicine, health care bill the center piece of his legislative agenda in 2009, even though unemployment had reached a high we have not seen in a quarter of century. Those who opposed a bill that would lead to higher unemployment, higher taxes, health care rationing, and injury to innovation have won the battle. This was seen in the rapidly falling approval ratings of many moderate Democrats who voted for the bill the first time around. This was also clear as the state of Massachusetts, which is 3 to 1 Democrat, voted Republican on a Senate seat held by a Kennedy for a half of a century. What is the connection?

The OP(formerly the GOP) are fools. They have the Conservative Tea Party movement to support them not showing up to this farce. Leave it to the OP to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

He already has some of the worst aspects of the health care bill passed, signed and in force in the Stimulus Package. It will take some time to get set up and staffed but the Fedgov already has the mandate to determine if you or I are worthy of treatment and retirement will become a time of reduced access to treatment or no treatment because one is "old" and no longer productive because it is legally now all in the hands of apparatchiks. This is a done deal and the Republicans WILL NOT reverse it even if they were to get 100% of Congress including the Senate this year. The most we can get from the Republicans on this is to tweak it around the edges, to raise the age of cutoff a few months, or other desultory adjustments. As conservatives the Republicans are Tories. At best they work to conserve whatever the Democrats have managed to put in place. The conservatives we need are folks who work to conserve the nation's foundational principles. At this point with most of those principles dismantled or ignored, that sort of Constitutional Conservative becomes the true radical. We are already a European nation now and only need the parliamentary form to make the superficial image match the reality. The only reason we do not yet have all of the Euro-socialist effects is that we do not yet have a majority of true leeches in the economy. One more conservative/Republican tax reform that removes more people from the tax rolls, even while reducing tax rates, should do the trick. The leeches will be in permanent control and we become Greece writ large.
