Charlie Rangel may be many things; liberal, stubborn, corrupt, greedy . . . wait, I forgot my point. Oh yeah, Charlie Rangel may be many things, but crazy he is not. However, in order to "temporarily" replace Rangel as the Chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means, the Democrats have come up with the perfect guy: Pete Stark (D-CA).
Now Pete is both corrupt and crazy, which may be entertaining. He is corrupt, as he claimed a Maryland homestead exemption on his taxes while representing California in Congress. California has a law that you must have a primary residence in their state in order to be a Congressman representing California. In fairness, Stark was cleared after a bizarre, invective-filled interview with Ethics investigators, which including Stark's use of a semi-hidden camera.
Pete is also Stark raving mad on occasion. For example, unlike Senator Bunning's recent causal rudeness to the press, Stark actually threatened to defenestrate (throw out of a window) a reporter whom he was mad at. Take that, liberal media!
Stark also is famous for having claimed on the Floor of the US House of Representatives that then-President George W. Bush wanted to send troops to Iraq in order to get, "their heads blown off for the president's amusement."
Rangel is no prize, but at least he was a war hero in Korea. Stark is next in line by seniority. This begs the question: would the Democrats really take power away from the Congressman representing Harlem, only to give it to the Congressman representing Shutter Island?

It is still up in the air who will take over the Committee. My point is that we should look closer at the next in line.

[Recorded on an answering machine to a VETERAN: Near the middle of his rambling message, the Congressman promised Dow, “But I’ll call you back later.” Why? Stark explained, “[To] let you tell me why you think you’re such a great, god-[bleep]ed hero.”
Stark (interesting the only avowed atheist in congress) has a terrible reputation.

Well they realized that couldn’t let Pete have it. So they’ve given it to Sander Levin.
