Looking for a way to help unemployed Freepers hook up with Freeper Employers who could use good workers!
There is a big ongoing thread somewhere around here. I’ll see if I can dig it up.

Great idea GB!
If I don’t get back to work here, I’m going to be begging Freeper employers to hire me!
Woohoo! It didn’t take long to get responses!

I am interested and currently unemployed for the 2nd time in my life (at 62). It has been about 6 weeks since I got the notice.
The 105 year old company that I worked for for 20 years (in 2 stints) appears to be closing. The problem was ownership capital problems & cash flow, not operations.
The last week I have heard nothing from my usual sources, it is possible someone is trying to buy it. In the previous week it appeared that another company that I had also worked for had taken over the salesforce.
Since 1972 I have been in the wholesale hardware distribution industry, with 2 privately held companies. Most of my time was in sales & sales management, then retail store design and later I published their catalog (3,000 pages 37,000 SKU’s) from a database. I created and maintained all their web images when we took them on-line for the web.
On the print side, there is no other human who knows the process that we used to create the catalog, except me. If it survives, I am sure they will have to have some help with that.
Great idea...help each other out! Very much like the first Christian community (Acts) shared what they had with each other so that no one went without....the difference being that they were not forced by anything other than their love for God and not wanting to see a fellow believer suffer! This is true compassion!

This is a wonderful idea.
I don’t know the best way to go about it either, but it’d be great to include other like-minded forums like the “big” sites, michelle malkin, etc.

I think I must of been on the thread they had about work a while back and it has come to the surface..These Freepers are a smart bunch!!!
I need a young, energetic CPA who would like a “piece of the action”. This could be your last job.
This is a wonderful idea!
Not just for people out of work,(my husband), but for FReeper companies/businesses that I can buy from/use.
Senior level Marketing/IT guru here. Specialties include communications, eMarketing, employee engagement and communications, and IT systems. Doing contract work now but would love full-time employment again (been unemployed since January 09). Located in West Michigan but am open to telecommuting and possibly relocating for the right job.
I was 54 and working for a bus company and I would transport special needs students to Pittsburgh. They bought out the other company I was working for and there was not much work for going to the Burg. I was doing medicals and local special needs student plus Airports but my pay was going down. I was complaining to my cousin on the phone about money and he said try for another cousin was working so I got an application but just could not get up the guts to take it in after a number of months I did and within 6 months I got an interview. It was between me and another guy and he went no another job so it was mine by default. It has worked out great. we have paid bills off and have been able to save. I hope this thread helps you get a job!! I know my grammer etc,,is not good but instead of going to College I chased girls. Other family member went to College and are making nice money!!
hey great idea..I love it!!!!BTTT..
Glad it worked out for you.
There are a lot of paradoxes in life. One of the more recent I have observed is that today for the first time in my life, many experienced well educated job seekers (over 40-50) are having a real tough time finding work when displaced. This is unusual.
Previously Engineers have had this issue, because of the specialized nature of the skill. But it is a broader problem today than before.
My situation will work out. And I have decided that I never want to be dependent on a single source of income again.
The nation is in a battle with the Left for the freedom of the US. There will be economic casualties for a lot of people as we fight this battle. It will not be over soon.
The gays used to have their own Yellow Pages (I don’t know if they still do)... a lot of groups do this. I would rather shop/pay/give a good Conservative my money-esp. a small business.
I think it’s also a good idea to help freeper employers fire liberals and replace them with conservative employees.
I believe a FReepers' website dedicated to job searches, product and services marketing, and all things work/job related would be a huge benefit to our community. I know if I was an employer, I'd most definitely make the FReeper job site one of my first places to look for talent.
Wow good ideas all over the place, Carry on FReepers!!!
That’s a great idea! I’d love to give my business to businesses owned by Freepers! I wonder if any freepers have online businesses.
Owner of a healthcare recruiting company if any credentialed healthcare professional need help.
Just thinking...but I wonder what would occur in a large company if the entire - and I mean ENTIRE - IT dept. walked off the job and stayed out for an entire month?
By "ENTIRE" I mean from the CIO down....everybody.
What would the company be like after one month?
The reason given - and signed "the IT Dept." - would be simple and direct. "This is in protest of the socialization of the US healthcare industry".
Just curious
What a great idea! I am retired and not looking for a job but we all could help hook people up.
This - from our dear friends at the EEO - says nothing at all regarding "political affiliation" or "philosophical viewpoint" ....
So....it would appear that a Freeper employer could search for and employ a Freeper employee with impunity.
Man, I miss printing. I was on the mechanical side of things, not composing. The job was ideal in more than the pay & benefits, though I surely appreciated that as well. I loved the physical activity of slinging those 10-ream paper boxes.
Now I’m a security guard holding onto my home tooth and nail at less than a third of what I used to earn. Too stubborn to give up my place.
Near Statesville & Greensboro, NC.
Thank you for posting this thread, GregB!
Anybody in Indiana County Pennsylvania that needs a job please contact me. It would be in Indian,Pa.
Lets thank the FReepers who posted the original thread about Jobs a while back!!!
I think that’s a great idea. If there is a thread on this already, I’d like to read it.
My husband lost his job last year, and we are going the capitalist route and starting a business. If anyone out there in the Fort Worth, TX area would like a job, please contact me.

We in Indiana County, Pa have been somewhat lucky. We have not been hit as hard as other places in the country. My husband’s bank is usually hiring, though the pay isn’t the greatest. But the cost of living is a bit lower around here. Also, his bank didn’t take bailout money. They are thriving.
Thanks for comments about printing side of things.
I composed a 3,000 page beast from a database and created all the promotions the same way. Also took them through the web transition. Created all the web images and extended them to the item level for the web order system. 37,000 SKU’s.
For print I used Quark with Xdata plugin to stream the text and images into the documents. Used my on computer hack for extracting items sequence, page number, and parent/child item relationship from final .pdf document. This allowed me to repeat a promotion or catalog section and recover the previous sequencing. Then I only had to place the new items since the last printing to organize the new document. I used PdfTK, Grep and some Excel plugins to do this. Totally my own solution.
It took me 2 years to get us off a proprietary system that was costing us $1,500 per month for page formatting. And that product was not editable after importing into Quark.
Sorry for the war stories, but it was my life for past 5-1/2 years. I was able to telecommute the past 1-1/2 year, liked that.

I am sure they do.
We need to start a Conservative Community (I don’t like that word but?)...
A simple way to accomplish this is by creating a LinkedIn Group. An advantage of LinkedIn is that it has resume, location, and contact info included.
A Group Owner would create a networking group such as “Reliable” and permit access to those who provide their Free Republic screen name in the group membership request. (I recommend that the group name be non-political since it is generally globally visible and political names may deter some employers.)
Job Seekers would request membership to “Reliable”. After approval, “Reliable” is added to the Job Seekers’ groups.
Employers would use the LinkedIn advanced search and add the group “Reliable” to their search criteria.
LinkedIn information is available at LinkedIn.com and tutorials may be found at LinkedIn and YouTube.
OK do we have any takers to help start this?

I’m too much a technology Neanderthal to fully appreciate the software/utilities you mentioned, but 37K SKUs are nothing to sneeze at!
When I started in Tech Svcs Dept as a worker in Tape/Print I/O, we printed mostly daily reports, or monthlies/ quarterlies/ end-of-yearlies, that sort of thing, as well as invoices/ EFTs.
Once I switched to the Legal Dept, the job meant documents had been retained & scanned into the system and produced at the request of a judge or counsel. For a tobacco company there was quite a lot of print work until things went digital. I was replaced by a process called virtual print.
I enjoyed the mix of working at the computer (Windows & Unix) and manual labor to feed & empty my printer(s). Did it for 18 years. The last one I ran printed @100 p.p.m.
