As a conservative, there's one thing I've never understood about conservatives: their propensity to see the glass as half empty. The health care battle that President Obama and the Democrats won on Sunday night is a case in point.
It's not that conservatives should be Pollyannas. Reality is reality, and as the late Scott Peck made a thesis in his book, The Road Less Traveled, the closer to reality one is, the saner one is. By that definition, Obama, Pelosi and Reid need to call their doctors' offices.
After Sunday night's loss, it's natural that conservatives should feel let down. Losing doesn't typically buoy anyone. But before conservatives start to write off the nation, as to some extent the otherwise insightful Mark Steyn has done, before concluding that freedom is lost, before conservatives make bulk purchases of one-way tickets to New Zealand or campaign for Alaska's secession, a little perspective is in order.

He’s right.. Think about it.... the village idiot Jimmy Carter gave us Reagan.
By passing the bill the Dems demonstrated they are a cohesive group that need to be replaced as a whole.
Then why did you write this Pollyanna dirt? While you gloat about the "voters," the Democrats are preparing to add convicts and illegals to their already bursting rolls of union box-stuffers, ACORNs, and zombies. And even if the "conservative voters" did vote in a bunch of Republicans, what guarantee is a repeal? When have Republicans repealed any socialist entitlement?
The nation is Conservative? I'd love to find some of these "Conservatives," but it seems that they are too busy cashing in their Social Security checks, food stamps, Medicare, student loans, and farm subsidies to conserve anything.
Mark Steyn is right, he’s lived it.
There is one reality, and billions of perceptions of it.
Every cause has an effect.
With this “health care” bill the left has everything they need to destroy our way of life, and they are doing exactly that, whether they realize it, or not.
The universe simply does not care about anyone good intentions—it is what it is.
The principles that are being violated are the exact principles that made human freedom possible in the first place.
You cannot violate a basic principle of human survival and hope the universe doesn’t whack you up side the head for doing so.
As Ayn Rand said: “You can’t have your cake and eat it too.”
The United States of America is indeed doomed if this is allowed to stick.
Controls breed controls. This will definitely lead to more, and more, and more, controls to “fix” what will be a downpour of unintended consequences.
To top it off, we are greenhorns when it comes to living the hard-left life of “something for nothing” and we are going to fall hard.
My advice: Buy storable foodstuffs, guns, ammo, bandages and medical supplies, whatever medicines you need, etc.
FOR US, THE AVERAGE AMERICANS, THERE IS NO OTHER POSSIBLE OUTCOME THAN SEVERE SUFFERING.
You cannot put a loaded gun to your head, pull the trigger, and hope the bullet will curve ‘round your skull.
This country is finished if this sticks.
Not gloom ‘n doom, it’s the reality of our situation.
Ignore nature at your peril.
They also demonstrated that we need to investigate them and purge the ranks.
I would like to see that too but the Republicans are unlikely to do it.
By November most of the country will be screaming for it and they will have no choice.
Hope so, unfortuately I think we lost some support for throwing the bums out with the passage of healthcare by
many ignorant voters.
Did they get discouraged and give up the first time socialized medicine was defeated? The Second? The Third? NO! It took them 50 years to get socialized medicine. Yet conservatives seem ready to fold because somebody once said "Welfare programs never get repealed." I wish the progressives would have given up that easy when people told them that "Socialized Medicine will never become law in the US."
I don’t think so at all. The MSM has lost lots of its clout. What planet are you living on? The health care bill was not passed by many ignorant voters but was highly opposed across the nation by very high margins of voters. The Democrats in congress have only a 11% approval rating.
Like I said on an earlier thread.. Pop in the movie 300. Realize the truth will always triumph, just not overnight. I am not discouraged. I saw the term Constitutional Awakening used to describe this. From the ashes comes the phoenix. It only takes a small group of committed people to change things, as long as we are not divided. Please continue to fight the divisive things. In the important matters we should be united, but in the inconsequential things we should agree to disagree.
Well let’s see what some legitimate polls show shale we.
I suspect the Dems will see a bump from passing healthcare
with the voters as a whole. If not, great!
Beltway tripe written by an out of touch progressive that claims he is a Conservative... don’t they all... but we know robbie... you are part of the problem rino!

Look at the bright side. This Bill brings us that much closer to Civil War.
They got a dead cat bounce. This bill is a POS that passed by a whisker and most of America knows it. The health care court wars are just beginning.
If Obamacare is allowed to "stand" ... then Socialism Stands. And what can we do about it? ... actually not much (beyond just "hope"). When you look at all the ways to turn away from this direction ... there is only one way left and it is the same path the Sons of Liberty were forced to choose. I "hope" I'm wrong ... that this is just a phase Democrats are going through ... but the facts (when "hope" is set aside) shows something else. As long as this Socialist Marker stands, socialism will stand. Accept it or reject it. There is a clear line in the sand.
Then again, that senile fool Hindenburg “gave” the Germans Hitler.
Who DID NOT regain us the Panama Canal, much less roll back some of the damage from LBJ and FDR.
It doesn’t matter that “Carter gave us Reagan.” The damage accumulates with each Progressive administration and never gets gets undone. No matter what folks think, Obama Care is permanent, and every attempt to undo it will be met with “Republicans want to take away your health care!”
The freakin’ glass isn’t half-empty, its darn near dry as a bone...
