The Lid ^ | 3/29/10 | The Lid

Tonight Jews celebrate the beginning of Passover. We remember when God took the Jews out of Egypt and made us a free people. Even most non-Jews know that part of the Passover celebration is the Seder meal. We use a book called the Haggadah as a "road map" to the Seder. You may be surprised that Moses is not mentioned in the Haggadah. The sages wanted us to remember that it was God that took us out of Egypt, Moses was only an instrument of the Lord's will.

So to make it up to Moses, below are six different movie clips showing 6 different Moses' including the silent version of the Ten Commandments, Burt Lancaster as Moses and of course the most famous, Mel Brooks (Charlton Heston is there too). Enjoy the film clips and have a Joyous Passover festival.

“We remember when God took the Jews out of Egypt and made us a free people.”

And, G*d’s efforts were fruitless.

Note that most Jews are severely socialism impaired.

In the one country where Jews were welcomed, and where individuals were truly sovereign, American Jews have worked for generations to advance socialism.

Oh, yeah, there is another thing. The most persecuted people of all, Jews, generally are unable to learn from history. Here in America, where they can own guns to protect themselves and their property, they are foremost amongst the groups seeking to ban guns.

If ever there was a group that should wrap its self in the Second Amendment, it is the Jews.

Ditto for the American Negros. ‘Course, nobody called them “The Smartest People”.

Ironically, both Jew and Negro tend to be Democrapic Party faithful.

Hmmn - might it be that there is no “Smartest People”, only smart individuals?

“And, G*d’s efforts were fruitless.”

You have a direct connection to the Almighty so that you know this?

“Note that most Jews are severely socialism impaired.”

Most Jews in Egypt died during the plague of darkness.

“In the one country where Jews were welcomed, and where individuals were truly sovereign, American Jews have worked for generations to advance socialism.”

The liberal ones.

“Oh, yeah, there is another thing. The most persecuted people of all, Jews, generally are unable to learn from history.”

Again, you’re talking about the faithless majority. The true believers learn from history. But, this phenomenon is not new. For example, the Macabees and the Hellenists.

“If ever there was a group that should wrap its self in the Second Amendment, it is the Jews.”

Ever hear of “Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership”?

“Hmmn - might it be that there is no “Smartest People”, only smart individuals?”

First thing you’ve posted that I agree with.

I’ll be celebrating Passover for the next few days so if I don’t respond to you it’s not because I’m ignoring you.

The movie with Ben Kingsley playing Moses is pretty good!

God's efforts are never fruitless... His ways are not our way and His thoughts are not our thoughts.

Jesus came, died, and rose again on the third day. And in His name there is salvation.

Nope, hardly fruitless.

Those Jews are the ones who wanted to go back to Egypt.

Well, if you are going to have Mel Brooks, then you really need to add Dudley Moore’s Wholly Moses — the Jewish answer to Monty Python’s Life of Brian.

“And, G*d’s efforts were fruitless.”
You have a direct connection to the Almighty so that you know this?
No. But I do have eyes, read, and am familiar with the importance, if not centrality, of socialism in American Jews.
“Note that most Jews are severely socialism impaired.”
Most Jews in Egypt died during the plague of darkness.
I referred to today’s Jews.
“In the one country where Jews were welcomed, and where individuals were truly sovereign, American Jews have worked for generations to advance socialism.”

There are others? Aside from the orthodox, that is.

I’m not G*d, and I don’t have to accept a modern day equivalent of Job as a justification for not calling a socialism impaired group socialists.

Yup, sure have. “The exceptions prove the rule”.

I’ll be doing the same, but I prefer contemplating to synagoging (Forgive me, Grammer Policeman!) with Liberals.
May you and yours be inscribed in the Book of Life for the new year.

G-d’s efforts were NOT fruitless. All throughout Jewish history, there have been less righteous Jews that have left the flock, shall we say, by just taking up the culture around them, assimilating.

And yet we are still here.

Falling in line with the dominant or surrounding culture, even the “Barack Obama and socialism are good” culture, is very sad to those of us who know our brethren are losing sight of the Truth. But it has happened MANY times before, equally as bad.

And Passover, along with many Jewish holidays, does touch upon the different kinds of Jews. Maybe some, tonight, will get a little “nudge” that they are maybe not the Wise Children...

Even if you were correct (and we’re going to have to agree to disagree on your perception), that doesn’t mean G-D’s efforts were “fruitless”. It’s true that not every “seed” G-D planted became a towering tree, but G-D’s efforts always yield fruit - even if you and I can’t see it.

“Note that most Jews are severely socialism impaired.”
Most Jews in Egypt died during the plague of darkness.
I referred to today’s Jews.

I know, but I was making a comparison in line with the season. The vast majority of Jews in virtually every age did not adhere to G-D’s laws or even the spirit of them. So your observation, while correct, is nothing new.

“In the one country where Jews were welcomed, and where individuals were truly sovereign, American Jews have worked for generations to advance socialism.”
The liberal ones.
There are others? Aside from the orthodox, that is.

Yes. At the Seder I just attended, I was heartened to speak with a brother and sister who were still in high school, who are not Orthodox, and who are staunchly politically Conservative.

I’m not G*d, and I don’t have to accept a modern day equivalent of Job as a justification for not calling a socialism impaired group socialists.

You can do whatever you want. As can I. I can see your point. I just hope you can see mine.

I’ll be doing the same, but I prefer contemplating to synagoging (Forgive me, Grammer Policeman!) with Liberals.
May you and yours be inscribed in the Book of Life for the new year.

Thank you and the same to you.
