How to invest in the iPad!
Economic Vindicator! ^ | 4-5-10 | Maria

Now that the iPad has been ecstatically fused into our high-tech culture, it may be time to consider investing in those companies who have consigned seriously obscene capital into this cultural phenomenon. This may be a wise, profitable alternative to joining those who are currently invested in Apple (APPL). Sales of the iPad appear to be on course to double and even triple estimates, Bloomberg reports. According to a recent news release from the AP, if Apple sells its anticipated 5 million units this year then the following suppliers should benefit:

AT&T (AT): Provides wireless network service.

Broadcom (BRCM): Maker of the Bluetooth and wireless components.

Foxconn (FXCNY): Assembles the Ipad’s components.

LG Display (LPL): Makes the backlit LCD display screen.

STMicroelectronics (STM): Makes the accelerometer, which flips the display from wide to tall.

Texas Instruments (TXN): Makes the controller chip for the touch screen.

Currently the iPad does not multitask, meaning it will only run one application at a time. I would lay down good money that the next generation of iPad will make history of this current inconvenience. For now, I’m on bug watch!

There’s an apple announcement on Thursday. They’re going to roll out iPhone OS 4.0. It is rumored to have multitasking for third party apps. It most likely include some things for the iPad that were not ready when they locked the os for production runs.

*Yawn*

Maybe it’s just me, but I couldn’t possibly care less about the latest iBling gadget. Somehow, I survive just fine without them.

It won’t matter if they don’t add at least a couple of USB ports. The Ipad has to become a good potential replacement of a laptop. If it does, it will truly make history. If it doesn’t, well, hopefully somebody else will do it.

At 50+ maybe I need to be put out to pasture, but each one of the newest “bleeding edge” toys that come out seem to me to be additional ways of robbing a person of opportunities for solitude.

I recall watching the local news coverage of some fools in Atlanta who camped out overnight to be the first to purchase Windows95 (!), and essentially you could have run that same story for the iPad roll out, with slight overdubbing.

No thanks. I like technology a lot, but I’ll pass on that.

Well, us seasoned buyers also know NEVER buy the first batch of ANYTHING new. Always bugs, always missing a few key ideas and features that are included in the next models. Usually for at or a little less than the originals.

I’m reminded of a conversation with my broker when Apple just introduced the iPod and their stock was around $15/share. The “expert” analysts at this firm viewed the iPod as just another Walkman and didn’t get what the fuss was about. No reason to buy Apple stock then.

Idiots.

I agree completely. My wife and I continue to survive just fine with just our $14 Tracfones and a 400 minute 1-year prepaid time cards. Nobody but my wife and kids have my number and the phone is never even on unless I'm making an emergency call or I specifically anticipate one of my family may need to reach me on it.

Anybody else can leave a message on my land line if I'm not home. I don't think anybody is going to curl up and die if they're unable to bug me immediately no matter where I am or what I'm doing.

Somehow, we still manage to always do what we need to do and be where we need to be for each other and our 2 teenage girls, even without the latest Crackberries and outrageous expensive monthly service charges.

AAPL is a very dangerous short.

Umm. Apple is AAPL, not APPL.

I don’t know much about that, I’ll take your word for it. LOL...my single foray into that was convincing my wife to agree to purchase 500 shares of Apple stock for us when it was around $12 a share.

I came home one day, and she told me she sold it all when it hit $25...:(

Sob. But hey, you win some, you lose some, and...I do trust her judgement on these things. Dang it! I wish she had held it for just a few more years!

Apple has made a lot of great gadgets in recent years. This is not one of them. This is a solution in search of a problem.

Only the faddiest fools with money to burn will buy the iPad -- and probably matching purses to carry it and its equally gadgety accessories.

I tend to agree.... remember when Segway was changing the world ?

I tend to think this hype by apples’ shareholders and geeks.... a product in search of a need....

The iPhone is more than just a cell phone as it has dozens of other uses.

I was able to watch the Giants-Astros game today while in line at the pharmacy on my iPhone, and I can multi-task by using the “Backgrounder” app which is available to those of us who Jailbreak our iPhones which gives them greater functionality and flexibility.
