In the hours that followed the tragic and devastating Polish airline disaster in Russia, which killed Poland's President and most of the top officials in the government, former President and freedom-fighter Lech Walesa implied that Russia was behind the crash.
Walesa stated, 'The elite of Poland have been struck down just as they were 70 years ago.' The plane that crashed over Russia was headed to a commemoration of the massacre of Polish government officials by the Russians 70 years ago.
Now, less than a week after the airline went down, top Polish officials are concluding that Russia is responsible for the crash.

Tensions between Poland and Russia have been on the rise ever since the demise of the Soviet Union in the 1980s. Poland had led the way to liberty from government tyranny when former Solidarity leader Lech Walesa staged massive worker strikes and protests against the Communists who ran the government and industry.
In the years that have passed since Poland’s liberation, the country has been at odds to varying degrees with Russia, the anchor nation and hub of the old Soviet Union.

But when former KGB official Vladmir Putin became President, vestiges of the old mindset at the Kremlin were readily noticeable. Many Russians whispered that Putin was not to be trusted, that his background as a KGB official in the old Communist government had permanently colored his thinking, and that, in fact, he had never ceased to be a totalitarian at heart who still believes in centralized government control.
Poland responded with open criticism of the direction of the Russian government, fearing that its leaders were determined to gradually take back the satellite nations it lost in the breakup of the Soviet Union.
And with Russian interventionism in Georgia and other former satellite nations, Poland had reason to be concerned.
Polish President Lech Kaczynski, who was killed in the crash, had been a frequent and harsh critic of the Russians, particularly when Russia objected furiously to the possibility that Poland was slated to receive a defensive nuclear missile shield from the U.S.”
I think it is God who punished the Poles for getting stuck in the past. At the same exact place.

Ten years ago, Putin had a lot to gain from the offing of the Polish government, but now Russia has already won on all the points in this history of complaints against Putin.
Russia rules the roost in Eastern Europe, and Poland and the rest do as they're told.
The NATO wannabees are now cozying up to Russia after seeing what the US, UN, NATO, and the EU did for Georgia. Throw in Serbia, Bosnia, and Kosovo coming to memory, and Zer0's backing down and surrender to Putin at every meeting, and it's clear, all Eastern Europe is impotent and weak.
Putin is not, he does not have to kill anybody to get everything he wants, and he's way to smart to upset that apple cart with negative publicity. He's about the last guy on Earth to suspect in this incident.
Sad to say but Lech Walesa is acting like a DemoRat at the Paul Wellstone memorial.

"Mr Yushchenko, a pro-European politician who wanted to bring his country out of Russia's shadow, fell seriously ill on September 6, 2004 as he was competing in presidential elections against a pro-Moscow candidate, Viktor Yanukovich, now prime minister.
After months of tests in an Austrian clinic, it was determined that he had ingested a massive amount of the poison dioxin.
Although he survived, his face was left bloated and pockmarked, and he has had to undergo regular treatment to rid his body of the toxin.
In an interview with Le Figaro he said he believed the dioxin used to disfigure him was made in a Russian lab.
Mr Yushchenko did not directly accuse the Russian government of being behind his poisoning, but he did say he had 'practically put all the pieces together' and the attempt against him 'was not a private action'. ..."

Alexander Litvinenko, the former Russian security agent fighting for his life in a UK hospital after allegedly being poisoned, has been a fierce critic of Vladimir Putin since before he became president in 2000.
Mr Litvinenko is thought to have been close to journalist Anna Politkovskaya, another opponent of the Kremlin who was shot dead last month, and said recently he was investigating her murder. It was after being handed documents apparently relating to the case that he was taken ill more than two weeks ago.
But he is perhaps best known for a book in which he alleges that agents co-ordinated the 1999 apartment block bombings in Russia that killed more than 300 people. He now appears to have fallen victim to the kind of plots which he wrote about.
Arrest
Mr Litvinenko, 43, first became a security agent under the Soviet-era KGB, rising to the rank of lieutenant-colonel in its later incarnations.
He is reported to have fallen out with Vladimir Putin, then head of the security service, in the late 1990s, after failing in attempts to crack down on corruption within the organisation. In 1998, he first came to prominence by exposing an alleged plot to assassinate the then powerful tycoon Boris Berezovsky, who himself now lives in self-imposed exile in the UK. He was subsequently arrested on charges of abusing his office and spent nine months in a remand centre before being acquitted.
In 1999 he wrote Blowing up Russia: Terror from Within, in which he accused the current Russian security service, the FSB, of carrying out several apartment house bombings in 1999 that killed more than 300 people. The attacks, which Moscow blamed on Chechen rebels, helped swing public opinion behind Russia's second war in the breakaway republic.
Petrol bombs
Complaining of persecution, in 2000 Mr Litvinenko fled to the UK where he sought, and was granted, asylum. But after settling in an unnamed London suburb, the former spy continued to behave as if on the run, constantly changing his contact details. The Times newspaper reported that over the summer someone tried to push a pram loaded with petrol bombs at his front door. Appearing alongside high-profile opponents of President Putin, he has continued to make allegations about his former bosses. Perhaps most notably, he alleged that al-Qaeda number two Ayman al-Zawahiri was trained by the FSB in Dagestan in the years before 9/11.
He must think he's gone to atheist heaven, having a U.S. president who is every bit as determined to destroy American freedom and superiority as he is.

The Russian government prevented the Polish president’s plane from landing four times to divert him from a ceremony to mark the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre, according to an MP.
Artur Gorski said the Russians “came up with some dubious reasons” that the aircraft couldn’t land because they feared President Leck Kaczynski’s presence would overshadow a similar event hosted by the Russian prime minister a few days before.
And their alleged plan ended in disaster when the Polish pilots made one final and disastrous attempt to land, killing Mr Kaczynski, his wife, and 94 others on board the plane.
And even more telling is this:
One version of events says that the plane approached the airport four times, because every time the Russians refused it permission to land - they wanted to send the plane with the president to an airport in Moscow or Minsk,’ Mr Gorski claimed in an interview published in the newspaper Nasz Dziennik.
“They came up with some dubious reasons: that there was fog over the airport, and that the navigation system didn’t work as it was under renovation, and that airport had a short landing strip.”
All of these claims may turn out to be false. But we may never know the real story due to the fact that Russia has had control over the investigation, and the crash occurred on Russian soil.”
That doesn't make it "pure rubbish". It could just mean he doesn't want to become another victim. A large number of people critical of KGB Putin have "mysteriously" been killed.
