Why the recession in Denver (and everywhere else) just won't go away

In spite of the largest governmental economic intervention in our history, at least in terms of total dollar amounts, the economy continues to sputter and show few signs of improvement. Employment especially shows no signs of recovery and may, in fact, be worsening in many areas including Denver.

In mid-April the Colorado Division of Labor and Employment reported that Colorado's official unemployment rate had risen to 7.9%. Of course, the real unemployment rate is a good deal higher. At the same time the Associated Press an increase in jobless claims with a national unemployment rate of 9.7% and an "underemployment" rate of 16.9%.

It is because the 'stimulus' and all of the other government-sponsored buyups of bills, liens, liabilities, etc. (with our money I'd add) are inextricably tied to useless shovel-ready projects that eventually get tied to things that must comport with ADA, etc. Case in point. Many sorely needed road projects can't get done because the government assholes require ADA sidewalks and all that stuff. Potholes? NO.....crosswalks with elaborately paved markers and lanes, Yes! (IF they make sure a wheel chair can get over the curb)....

A city where I live just finished four intersections in the town square with pavers and concrete borders cut in the pavement....looks real nice...100 feet from EVERY intersection the roads are torn up, potholes and extremely eroded...They couldn't use the money for that because of the side walks, curbs, etc for ADA. So a bunch of laborers had two month's work and a construction company got a lot of money....No permanent jobs, no economic benefit....this happens all over the country.

What pi$$es me off is liberals claiming this depression would be worse with out government interference in the economy. If unemployment were to cease today, would there be bread rioting in the streets.

"In spite of"

I say BECAUSE of.

Rather than addressing the root causes, they merely exacerbate the entire situation by borrowing and printing money and throwing it away on useless 'make work' projects.

That's what the banking overlords decree.

Same as 1776, 1812 etc., and on and on.

That’s because government is the problem and cause of the situation, Mr. Media.

“The money that banks borrow from the Fed is paid back at less than 1 percent. All the bank has to do is turn around and invest that same money in Treasury Notes which yield at least 5%.”

Here’s the problem with the article. Six-month Treasury notes are currently paying .24%, one-years are paying .45%. Don’t believe everything you read.

Same in our town. Out on a local walk a couple days ago, I noticed the city sidewalk just ended in midblock, about 15 beyond the end of a driveway. Of course the city just had to add an ADA access point where the sidewalk ended. It would have been too much of an inconvenience for somebody in a wheelchair to turn around and go back 15 feet. Heaven forbid.

We just spent money to change all the two-hour parking street signs in the downtown area. The reason? The old signs weren’t reflective enough at night and they were not evenly spaced! I kid you not! The streets roll up at 6 PM here anyway and there are only a few cars downtown after that.

Government at all levels is infested with idiots that will spend our money on the merest trifles.
