Dodd Says "Immigration Reform" on Front Burner for Democrats; Must Have "National Answer" - Video

Here is video from "Meet the Press" today where Democrat Sen. Chris Dodd said the new Arizona anti-Illegal Immigration Law shows that a "national answer" is needed on Immigration Reform. Dodd said the issue will now be on the front burner for Democrats.

GOP Sen. Richard Shelby agreed that a patchwork of laws in various states is not good, but said the first thing that should be done is that the Federal Government ought to "enforce our borders," and then deal with "the rest."

It certainly looks like Democrats are going to make a push on Immigration, if for no other reason, to pacify those on the Left pushing for it. They see the potential of millions of Hispanic votes for many years to come out in front of them. What they may be underestimating is the rage they will generate on the part of millions of independents. But then, they have already lost many of the independents with their ramming through of ObamaCare.

How about a compromise, Dodd?

Let's say that we'll agree to grant amnesty, permanent residency, and green cards to those who are currently in this country illegally but have committed no other serious crimes other than their immigration status, and in return you'll agree that these same people will have a lifelong prohibition of ever obtaining legal citizenship and voting rights?

Today’s Dem Party... a coalition of illegal aliens, felons, and women who demand the right to murder their unborn children.

There is a reason that the Dems have pushed Amnesty for Illegals to the front burner...

And that reason is Arizona...

For all of Obama's bluster about finding a DoJ solution to combat Arizona's initiative...the courts will actually have a very difficult time with this one.

At the heart of the issue is this....Per se, is maintaining control of our borders unconstitutional? Is enforcement of our immigration laws unconstitutional?

I know that many on the left would immediately leap to the conclusion that "Yes...yes. both of these things are, on their face, unconstitutional.".....

But, were the courts to actually rule this way... everyone would know the logic to be pure fallacy.

The Dems feel an overarching need to declare federal preemption over this.....and quick.... before the courts actually agree with Arizona!

Your suggestions are entirely appropriate. We have to ask the question: How does the INS intend to contact 40million illegal immigrants whom the Administration claims are impossible to find, charge and deport?

It is going to be very interesting to watch the implementation of amnesty and registration - not to mention future naturalization. INS will have to employ 100,000 new Government workers (Acorn thugs no doubt).

Someone should ask Dodd whose interest he’s serving, ours or the illegals.

Okay, Selby, just what is wrong with each state having it’s own law? I like Selby but when are the republicans going to grow something between their legs and reach over and slap the snot out of people like Dodd and Frank?

If the people don’t stand up to this and stop it now there will be no state constitutions in force within a few years.

The communists are very well seated to continue beyond 2012. Once King Obama gets his next term he will suspend all voting for President. Think not? Well if we depend on the peaceful Tea Party, who is to stop it? Glen Beck is wrong!!!!! Never in the history of mankind has being peaceful has won a war, and we are at war. Arizona will be the shot heard around the world, win or lose. And it will determine if we will get back to a smaller Constitutional Government or just be salves to the huge Federal Communists Government..

Certainly. Calimexico has had its own more stringent gasoline and emission standards w/o regard to the federal standards.

I hate to say it, but you’re right.

The American colonists didn’t get their freedom by marching in the streets of Philadelphia and Boston, waving big signs demanding their independence from Britain.

They had to fight the soldiers of King George with the deadly weapons of their era.
