Is Financial Reform Hurting The GOP?

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., couldn’t come up with the votes to break a filibuster on the financial regulatory bill today. Indeed, Nebraska Democrat Ben Nelson joined a united GOP in opposition. So it’s worth asking whether this issue really is harming Republicans much at all.

Last week IBD reported that Democrats seemed to be enjoying some success with the issue of financial regulatory reform lately, especially after the SEC charged Goldman Sachs (GS) with fraud.

Of course, Republicans may be holding out with the expectation of getting to vote for a compromise bill sometime in the near future.

I really wish the MSM would learn what the hell a filibuster is. This article claims there’s a filibuster around the financial “reform” bill. THERE IS NOT ONE. Today’s vote was on proceeding to debate. It failed. That’s not the same as a filibuster. Gawd how do these people get their jobs as supposedly credible journalists not even knowing what constitutes a filibuster? Time for them to watch those old ABC Saturday morning cartoon civics lesson cartoons.

No it’s not hurting them. It is allowing them more and more time to highlight the Democrats hypocrisy on Wallstreet. The Democrats are stuck on stupid and the Republicans actually seem to be learning that you don’t win by retreating when you have the advantage even if it is an imperfect one. If they Republicans really want to do this right they need to put forth their own streamlined financial reform bill. Something that people can understand and one that doesn’t give the President unlimited power to rescue his big Wallstreet buddies when their companies are on the verge of failure.

Had John McCain suspended his campaign to return to Washington, stand on the floor of the Senate, and denounce the dangerous spending solution and demand tax repeal instead, he would be president.

John Boehner and Mitch McConnell are currently holding a solid resistance to Obama & Co.'s attempt at 1922 Rome/1933 Berlin/1949 Peking/1959 Havana/1979 Teheran.

Today I called our congressman, our senator, our adjacent-district congressman, Boehner, McConnell, and "Fred" at the Republican National Committee.

Do we not realize that solidarity will equal victory, both this November, and November 2012.

Victory. That's the zeitgeist. Victory.

I think some country club GOPers fear that the tea partiers resonate with main-street America, and this forces the established GOPers away from their instincts to be collaborators and sell-outs and obedient cowards who live in terror of the "news" media's wrath.

“We opposed the democrat measure, because it was too soft, favored their cronies in Financial companies, and would be harmful to the economy.”

“We agree actions should be taken, and when we have the majority in November, Republicans will enact tougher laws, to protect consumers and the American economy.”
