Not even two months after signing health care reform into law, President Obama Saturday said his signature project is already paying dividends.
The campaign to reinvent the $2.5 trillion health care system and provide medical benefits for millions of uninsured Americans is providing tax breaks for small businesses and helping families with young adults.
"Already we are seeing a health care system that holds insurance companies more accountable and gives consumers more control," Obama said during his weekly radio address.
The President acknowledged that the massive and hotly contested reform will play out over several years, but said it has already put insurance companies on the spot.
"For too long, we have been held hostage to an insurance industry that jacks up premiums and drops coverage as they please," he said.
Obama also said 4 million small businesses could be eligible this year for a health care tax cut and that insurers can no longer drop people from plans if they get sick.
"The new health care law has also begun to end the worst practices of insurance companies," he said.
The controversial reform remains a target for Republicans and is likely to remain a key issue in November's congressional races.

One can't really call this "insurance" anymore. Insurance implies pooled resources and shared risk. When a company has to accept all applicants, and cannot refuse to reinsure the riskiest members, then it can no longer be called "insurance" but is instead merely a 3rd party payer.
It's only a matter of time (I'd bet within 2 years) that these companies pull out of health care and then there will be one payer- the Federales, which was the whole idea behind this bill from the beginning.
So, from the President's point of view, I'd have to agree that he would think it to be a rousing success thus far.

Here's how to deal with the Leftwingtards ~ simply point out that ANY medical care system that doesn't allow a person to place their aged mothers and fathers on their policy is in dire need of reform.
They'll probably argue back that Medicare takes care of the elders. Your response is that Obama is whacking Medicare by 1/2 trillion per year and there's really no "there" there anymore, so the elders are left without medical care~!

Thanks to Obama and the Thugs in this Congress, in Folsom, California, a large surgery center is refusing to take Medicare!
Californians can remember this when they vote Babs Boxer, the arrogant one, out of office. Next comes her twin Feinstein.
Must be, only thing we’ve seen is a 17% INCREASED in single, self employed just breaking even daughter’s private heath ins. How’s that for hope and change?
Even worse our premiums are going up while the benefits go down. And if you are retired Military over 65 you have Tricare for Life + Medicare part B. Both are cutting reimbursement to the doctor by 21%. And TFL is being socked with BIG NEW FEES (Roughly $7,000 per couple) in 2011 per a 2008 DOD bill. And NO COLA raises for 3-4 years for either.
BUT we get more 35 new taxes at the federal level, more at the state, city and county every year. With bodies to wore out to work, we are going to be in rough shape to face NAZI CARE!
