RUSH: The New York Times is not happy today. A story written by Charlie Savage:
"The House Armed Services Committee has dealt a blow to President Obama's hopes to shutter the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, by unanimously..."
U-nan-i-mous-ly!
That means every Democrat voted to keep it open. "[U]nanimously approving legislation that would prohibit creating a detention center inside the United States."
Now, what happened? What happened to this brilliant, job-creating idea to send the detainees to that prison not being used right now in Illinois? That was Dick Durbin's idea, and remember, "Oh, yeah, it's gonna create a lot of jobs out there. There won't be any problem having these people there."
Now all of a sudden, out of nowhere, "The House Armed Services Committee has dealt a blow to President Obama's hopes to shutter the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, by unanimously approving legislation that would prohibit creating a detention center inside the United States. ...
[L]ate Wednesday, the House committee unanimously approved a defense bill for 2011 that bans spending money to build or modify any facility inside the United States to house Guantanamo detainees, according to a summary of the bill.
It says the committee wants to see 'a thorough and comprehensive plan that outlines the merits, costs, and risks associated with utilizing such a facility. No such plan has been presented to date. The bill prohibits the use of any funds for this purpose.'"
Now, the cynic in me says this was always going to be the case.
The cynic in me -- and I could go back and we could get the audio archives where I told you:
"Folks, they're never going to close Guantanamo Bay. They're not going to shut it down." All of this is just a bunch of pap, BS, loose lips in order to satisfy the kook fringe that is the Obama base. They're not gonna close it, and they're not gonna bring detainees to the United States. Maybe Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, but that's it.
Every aspect of this was a lie. Where's Durbin today?
Durbin ought to be outraged! So should every politician from Illinois who told us what a great job moving those detainees to a new prison in Illinois would be. Now not only can they not move 'em to Illinois, they can't move 'em anywhere.
I'm here to tell you: This was the game plan all along. They were never going to close it.
Remember that first day in office, the executive order? (doing Obama impression) "What are we doing here, Greg?"
Oh, we're closing Guantanamo Bay, one year from now."
What happened to that executive order? What happened to that?
Well, the guy who wrote it is unceremoniously dumped or moved somewhere else, Greg Craig. He's gone.
I'd like to be a fly, insect wandering around these fringe kook left-wing website control stations today. I mean, this is one of the main reasons they voted for Obama! They thought torture was going on down there.

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama has directed the federal government to buy the near-empty state prison in rural Thomson, Ill., to house federal inmates and up to 100 detainees from the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, officials said late Monday.

1-16-10: $1 Billion boost to Federal prison and local economy
A decision by the federal government to acquire a nearly vacant Illinois border prison to house terrorism suspects is expected to create more than 600 jobs and generate about $1 billion in economic benefits for the area.
President Barack Obamas administration sent a letter Tuesday to Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn confirming plans to acquire a state correctional facility in Thomson, Ill. The prison is along the Mississippi River, 12 miles northeast of Clinton, population 27,000, which is the major retail hub for the area.

3-15-10 - Boehner: No To Thomson Even "If You Put A Gun To My Head" (VIDEO)
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) appeared on CNN's State of the Union this weekend and made some strong statements in regards to shutting down Guantanamo Bay and moving federal prisoners to a refurbished Thomson Correctional Center in Northwest Illinois. How strong?
"I wouldn't vote for this [Thomson] if you put a gun to my head." Yeah, that strong. Boehner also echoed worries expressed previously by U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk that moving prisoners here would increase the terrorist threat level to the U.S. and making Thomson sound like a keg party, saying, "There's no reason to bring these terrorists into the United States, no reason to increase the threat level here because they're here and their friends may want to come."

5-21-10 - Quinn: Thomson facility might not be used for Gitmo detainees after all
Gov. Quinn said today that the Thomson Correctional Center in Northwest Illinois might not be used for Guantanamo Bay-transferred enemy combatants after all.
But it would still be used as a federal prison, the governor said.
The state would sell the mothballed state prison to the federal government.
The money would be used to help pay off the bonds sold to build the prison. Any leftover money would be used to help the state budget, Quinn said.

Looks like IL was going to get a big pile of loot either way. Tough, to lose the Olympics.

Whatever happened to prison ships?
The Somalis run them now ... ;)
(Can I use HTML tags in the tagline? If so, how?)
Yeah...is ANYBODY in the national media covering this...or is Obama gonna get another pass...never mind, I think I know the answer.
We must let the Russians deal with those Somalis....
I want to see the massive left-wing protest marches in DC.
We have passed Obama’s original pull-out date from Iraq, we have denied them due process and now we’re never going to close Gitmo.
Where are the protests now?
I don't think so.
Special Characters maybe
I don’t believe so, only the url which
must be copied and pasted.
Yes.
