Suggestion: We should purge the word “impacting” from our vocabularies when discussing job losses. I suggest instead the phrase “destroying the livelihood of”; as in “destroying the livelihood of 1300 employees here in New York.”
“Impacting” is just too benign a term, at least for those of us who have in the past been “impacted”.
I laugh, because I thought a few LONG minutes before posting thinking exactly about what word to use there. Impacted. There are so many substitutions that would fit based on where I stand in the grief cycle. There is no “one size fits all” word for these situations, because in reality, they ALL fit.
As a manager, I have already informed my peeps that we will be laughing a whole lot more over the next time parcel we have together to “endeavor to perservere”
